Re: 2016-17 Season
Holloway has already sat one year, so if he did transfer before his senior year, he would have to sit another year and lose a year of eligibility. I thought he was solid tonight. Its only been two games, but he appears to have soft hands and good court awareness. If he stays healthy and gets himself into decent basketball shape, he could be a very important contributor to this team, even with the new guys coming in.

I think he's a guy that could be really solid. If he could ever drop another 30 lbs he would really be good for us at the 5. You can tell he has some skill and court awareness.
Re: 2016-17 Season
^ DK has been saying that about him from day 1. He's got great hands, good footwork and he's coachable. It's primarily a function of weight and conditioning that will determine just how good he can be.
Re: 2016-17 Season
None of the smart guys moved him off the block tonight offensively or defensively. Once he plants himself the ball ends up getting passed out of the paint because nobody was able to back him down.
Re: 2016-17 Season
^ A couple of Howard guys bounced off Mount Holloway Saturday.
I'm even more optimistic about next year after the first two games of this young season. UMass will be returning a solid foundation of players on which to build. If the new guys play up to their potential, the future of UMass basketball is very bright indeed!

I looked and couldn't find any Umass listed in any November/December tournaments for next season. Have they announced either way if they plan on participating in any of them? Most already are full.

The Great Alaska Shootout is still wide open.

Re: 2016-17 Season
^ I hope the plan is to play very few, if any, good teams until conference play. Next year is going to be as close to a complete overhaul as you can get. As it stands right now there could be up to 7 new guys who all might play meaningful minutes.

I try to keep track of what we know:fenway617 wrote:I looked and couldn't find any Umass listed in any November/December tournaments for next season.

Re: 2016-17 Season
Mike, looks like you have to swap Gresham and Jarreau.

^ Not following. What do you mean?
Re: 2016-17 Season
^ Mike, you have the stats backwards for the NOLA guys . . that's what he means!
Re: 2016-17 Season
I find it interesting that 4 of the guys signed on 11/11 and Tyrn signed on 1/11. Numbers! Yay!
Re: 2016-17 Season
I am pretty sure UCF will play in Amherst next year in the back end of a Home/home agreement they made when Umass played there in the fall. I am 99% sure during that game the announcers said UCF would be traveling to Amherst next year.MikeUMA wrote:I try to keep track of what we know:fenway617 wrote:I looked and couldn't find any Umass listed in any November/December tournaments for next season.

^ Doesn't Harvard owe us a home game?
Re: 2016-17 Season
Bamford was taking questions on Twitter last night. Maybe a little late, but I asked about the non-conf sched, or lack thereof as of now.fenway617 wrote:I looked and couldn't find any Umass listed in any November/December tournaments for next season. We'll see if we get a response.
Ah, yes. My bad. Fixed.tdmass wrote:^ Mike, you have the stats backwards for the NOLA guys . . that's what he means!
You might be right, but I can't find anything online to confirm that. Same goes for Harvard. I don't recall seeing anything that said this year's game starts a new series.
