Game 10 (2015-16): Merrimack

Post by Marshmont_63 » Sun Nov 08, 2015 12:15 am

UMass is back in action this upcoming Friday in the Mullins against Merrimack. Mack has been pretty impressive this year. They're 5-1-2 overall and 1-1-2 in Hockey East play. Those two ties have come against the #4 team in the country: UMass Lowell. They also have a very good win against #11 BU. The only blemish on their schedule is a loss to UNH, which is looking worse by the day as UNH continues to lose. I think UMass has proven they can compete against the bad and average teams this year, but this should be a good test against a pretty good team. Will we be blown out again like Yale or BC or can we put together a complete game and steal a much needed two points in the Hockey East standings? I hope it's the latter. Go UMass!!

Can someone confirm that the hockey pep band will be making the debut at this game? All I can find is a note from Dan Malone http://www.masslive.com/umasshockey/ind ... its_3.html but nothing specific on Bamford's twitter (then again, I could have missed it since I don't use twitter)...

If the band is indeed appearing, I might take some time off to leave work early on Friday... Wouldn't want to miss it, especially since it took long enough...

^^^^^^^

I tweeted a question to Bamford after Saturday night's win over UConn and he tweeted back that the band would debut on 11/13! I am pumped that I will be at the game. Go, U!

^^^^^^^^^

Wish I could, but already have plans for Saturday. Plus, I am fully confident in a Minutemen hoops victory in the season opener!

^ That's precisely what I was looking for, thanks Rocks!

I'm somewhat surprised that this isn't being promoted, but I suppose they may not want to draw attention to the fact that we are the last Hockey East school to have a pep band (though, from what I heard, there was a half-a**ed attempt made to have hoops band perform at the hockey game sometime before 2005 and it didn't go well). Or maybe they don't want to draw attention away from the NCAA play-in *field* hockey game...

The band was for one season somewhere between 2002 and 2005. It was a valiant effort with about a dozen or more bandos. They played staples from the hoop band, including "Road to the Final Four" (I guess UMass hockey was on the road to a basketball final four?). IIRC, they wore old hockey jerseys as their uniforms. Legend has it that George Parks put the kibosh on the puck band, demanding more money and/or scholarships in exchange for the band. The rest is history.

They did trot out the hockey band for one of the trips to the Garden, a season when UMass didn't have a hockey band.

^ Ahhhh, the Gahden!

"Maine and UMass wage epic battle in 3rd-longest game in NCAA history."

As I remember it Cage and I enjoyed ourselves immensely. One of Tim Benedetto's better games. He swallowed his whistle during the OTs.

Lost 4-2. MC broke the tie with 10 mins left and added an EN.
