BTHoops wrote:Just FYI on Rose's SAT.
Rose was cleared to play by the NCAA Clearinghouse for his freshmen season. After the season was over and Rose was headed to the NBA Draft, Educational Testing Services sent a letter to Rose saying there were questions about his SAT score. In the letter ETS told Rose he had 30 days to be back in touch or they would invalidate his score. Rose, who had already entered the NBA draft and had no intention of going back to Memphis, plus had signed with Adidas took no action. ETS did, after the 30 days, invalidate his score. The NCAA then took the action to go back and reverse the Clearinghouse decision from almost a year prior due to the fact that Rose now had no valid SAT. That is the beginning and end of the story. Love how no one actually researches for the actual facts and it is often reported he "cheated" and therefore Memphis forfeited their season.

I'm surprised not more attention is being paid to this tweet/post. Those were some great shots of the facility.

Re: Calipari - UMass jersey retirement
I need to be careful in my wording here since I do not want to be misunderstood nor do I want to start a battle- just want to state an opinion.
I loved Cal when he was here and we all owe him a debt of gratitude for putting UMASS and UMASS hoops on the map. His success brought a sense of pride to students, alumni and the state of Massachusetts as his leadership brought unexpected and outsized success to UMASS.
That was 20 years ago. Time to move on. I am tired of all the Cal idolatry. His influence led us to Bruiser and DK- both great guys but mediocre coaches at best. In the 20 years since the Final 4, UMASS could have reasonably expected some more success than we have had. Upon his departure, UMASS could have gotten a tested, successful coach but we got Bruiser instead. That led to Lappas that led to Ford that led to DK. When a school fails to capitalize on its success it is doomed to go back to a level of mediocrity.
UMASS needs to blaze a new trail of success without constant references to Coach Cal. I think this leads to living in the past and wishful thinking. Bruiser and DK were never going to bring back the Cal magic. That is an unreasonable expectation. Only Cal can do that- he is one of the all time greatest coaches. I hope AD Bamford can break UMASS out of this living in the past thinking and chart a new course for all UMASS sports.
Again, Cal was great- time to move on.

Sorry I meant specifically on these boards. We're always wanting updates, pictures etc and the first time we get some in awhile there wasn't much of a reaction to it.InnervisionsUMASS wrote:^

I think all the attention on Cal is mainly due to his HOF induction and jersey retirement. I agree that longing for the old days is not productive but I don't think that's what's going on here.KahunaK wrote:I need to be careful in my wording here since I do not want to be misunderstood nor do I want to start a battle- just want to state an opinion.

Re: Calipari - UMass jersey retirement
To the person a couple before me, Bruiser did a hell of a job for a guy thrust into a no win position at a young age and with no head coaching experience. Marcum was impatient and really screwed up dropping Bru for Lappas. I am of the opinion that we would have done much better with Bruiser if we kept him than we did without him. He would have thrived getting us some top notch players if he had the chance. He motivated his players and had a rough group to deal with. Bassit was more a complete dick but Bru kept him from destroying the entire program, which could have happened. Bruiser doesn't deserve the hate and I can only dream about how much better we would have been for the past 17 years if he was given the chance to grow into the job.

"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

"This is my dream job''
Re: Calipari - UMass jersey retirement
Very well said and I could not agree more. It is a very hard transition to go from asst. to head coach on the same team. The relationship assistants develop with players changes as one becomes the big boss. I think Bruiser handled that transition with class and professionalism. There is no doubt in my mind that we would be in a better place now had Bruiser been given more time to develop his style.rayers wrote:To the person a couple before me, Bruiser did a hell of a job for a guy thrust into a no win position at a young age and with no head coaching experience. Re: Calipari - UMass jersey retirement
I don't know why anyone from UMass cares what Memphis thinks about Cal.. It's obvious where we all stand as the Final Four banner isn't coming down anytime soon.
I wish this game wasn't smack dab in the middle of the week but I understand they needed to make schedules fit, plus they'll probably now sell out a game that would instead only have had a couple thousand at it.

The only nerve that was touched was yours when Dana Kirk screwed you over. Since then, you've got a stick up your ass and if anything goes wrong, it's obviously the coaches fault. I guess that's partially not your fault, but it's your fault for not having figured out after 5+ years who really screwed you this time.
And I guarantee you if we decided to put up a Cal statue, you'd be the first person here trolling us. Again, the issues you deal with outside of Memphis Basketball must be real deep to spend time doing this. For someone who is all good over there, you don't act like it.
