2014-15 Season
Re: Game ½, 2014-15: AIC exhibition
^ This. It's worth it. Beware of automatic renewals...
This is the most enjoyable losing season ever!
Re: Game ½, 2014-15: AIC exhibition
Anyone know how to watch these streams on a delay? I.E. can I start watching the game an hour lat fast forward and/or rewind?
Re: Looking ahead to 2014-2015
^ It took until the second game of the football season to get Sifrin through the clearing house . . shit happens!

We play 4 MAAC teams this year, so taking a look at the league preview isn't a bad idea. Canisius will drag our RPI down, but the other 3 are pretty good teams. Oh yeah, we also get to see our buddy David Laury. Looks like he could have helped us had he stuck around.

Cady is the key to how far we go this year. He doesn't have to be our best player, but he needs to provide a consistent inside presence every game.

The A10 doesn't get many 5* or 4* recruits. Most tend to head towards one of the 5 power conferences. The A10's competitive because the 2* and 3* players it does get tend too stick around for four, sometimes five years (if red shirted). And, and with good coaching and work ethic, they get stronger/faster/better, etc., sort of diamonds in the rough that need a little polishing.
Hines and Holloway may fit that mold. I really they can at least practice with the team.

Thank God we got rid of the MAC teams in order to play the MAAC teams.

Those MAAC games terrify. They come early in the season and three of them are good (with two being potentially top 50 type good). I think we'll be a better team in February than we were last year. It's November and December that worry me. Given that our road games are at tournament type teams, winning these MAAC games becomes even more important. This is the one year I wish we were playing a few MAC cupcakes instead...

The HUGE difference is that all of these games are at home. No more silly long road trips to difficult to reach MAC schools.
Heck, we only have six non-conference home games (one of which is in Springfield). Not many other teams competing for an NCAA tournament play so may neutral site and road non-conference games. Many schools just load up the non-conference with home and neural games and do not play true road games until league play.

Re: Looking ahead to 2014-2015
^Agree here. 7-6 vs this non-con slate might look better than 10-3 vs the non-con slate we put together two and three seasons ago. I think this team can get to the tourney with 19 regular season wins and 2 (possibly only 1) more in Brooklyn. That couldn't be said two and three years ago and probably couldn't have been said for last year, since even though we played a solid non-con schedule, we had PC/LSU (and technically BYU) all at home.
I think the keys to the non con are going 3-1 vs the MAAC, beating FGSU, beating Northeastern, beating BC, winning one of two at Mohegan and stealing one of the tough true road games (at Harvard, at PC, at BYU and at LSU). That'd put us at 8-5, which I think is really solid for a team with a lot of new faces playing so many difficult games. The good news is the A10 is down and I think we have a real chance at going 12-6. I like that we get some of the sneaky good teams at home (Duquesne, Richmond come to mind).
I think it's critical that we open the year 3-0. It will be difficult playing Manhattan at 11 AM in what will be our third game in four days, but it's worth noting that Manhattan plays at FSU the Saturday before. So they'll have to fly back to NYC and then bus up to Amherst. They also graduated their top three scorers, so that game is a bit less worrying that I initially thought. It's imperative that we get a great crowd out for Siena and really give our guys a home court advantage. Siena is a more experienced team than we are and that's a source for concern in an opener. But if we can win that I'm pretty confident we'll beat BC in front of a heavily pro UMass crowd at the Garden. And then I think we can beat Manhattan, despite the short rest. Opening 3-0 would give a team with a lot of new faces the confidence it needs to play a pair of tough games at Mohegan and hopefully allow us to steal one.

Re: Looking ahead to 2014-2015
Reading the comments from the Open Practice thread, I can't help but feel that Cady Lalane is going to be a key determinant of the season - if he is the Cady of last year I think our season will rest with the quality of Trey/DG/Hinds. If Cady shows improvement over last year - faster step, stronger to the basket and quicker ability to pass out of the double team to a productive back court, I think this team could have potential beyond last year teams. Such a big "if" but I think one we may be able to answer definitively by January.

I found out the hard way. Make sure to cancel after the season.

If you have a credit card that uses "Virtual Account Numbers" (like Citi does), use that number to pay, then any automatic renewal charge would fail.

If I'm counting correctly, these are the games where streaming COULD be available via A-10:Almontis wrote:I can't really tell how many games will be streamed though.
Siena
FL Gulf Coast? (not sure if Springfield will have the feed)
Iona
St. Bonaventure
at La Salle
at George Mason
at Fordham
at St Bona
Duquesne
Rhody (A-10 TV means streaming via A-10 is likely)
Saint Joe (another A-10 TV)
Fordham
Richmond
The rest of our games are being televised by other networks, which precludes a stream from the A-10.
