Will the DG news impact the basketball program?

That could be a strong selling point. Not only because of DG but the surrounding communities.uz2b-len wrote:I like the idea of attracing some gay super-talents to Amherst.

2. Springfield, Mass. (pop. 153,155)
Though it’s not exactly a household name as an LGBT hot spot, Springfield ought to be. The city is among the top 10 cities in the U.S. in percentage of same-sex couples, according to the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, and it’s a desirable place to relocate from the metropolises because of its location near skiing, shores, Boston, and Provincetown. LGBTs appreciative of art and architecture inhabit gay-popular hoods Downtown, McKnight, Forest Park, and the Ridgewood/Maple Hill area of Six Corners.

1. Northampton, Massachusetts
Dubbed as "Lesbianville U.S.A." by the The National Enquirer in 1992, Northampton, MA is the best city in America for lesbians. The Northampton area has always been a great place to live, and because gays and lesbians can get legally married in Massachusetts, it tops our list. Northampton is a small town, but because of the numerous universities, including Smith College, Northampton has all the cultural offerings of a big city.

A couple twitter idiots doesn't mean anything.
Damn straight, Mass Grad. We all have the Constitutional right to practice whatever religion we want. That doesn't mean all of us have to agree that the Mormon religion isn't a ridiculous confabulation of moronic ideas. Some, like me, believe that teaching children absurd beliefs is poisonous to their minds and thus is harmful. I, at least, have spent time reading the writings of the LDS. Most non-Mormons who defend the LDS do so out of a knee jerk reaction that it is ok for people to believe what they want to believe and don't bother to actually read the Book of Mormon or other LDS writings. I could not disagree more - believing the absurd creates a mind fertile for exploitation (ironically, Joseph Smith was primarily known for just that - exploiting people). In the context of the current discussion it is worth noting that the LDS was extremely active in supporting the gay marriage ban (Proposition 8 ) in California.

Islam and Judaism are not really comparable as they are not run from a central authority. In that regard, Catholicism and Scientology are more comparable. I think teaching in the catechism that the miracle of transubstantiation literally occurs is teaching Catholics to believe in magic. That's one absurdity but it is central to the Eucharist. The Catholic Church, at it's core, teaches belief in magic - they call it divine miracle. The Catholic church was also active in support of Proposition 8 in California. The religion most comparable to LDS, in terms of teaching patently absurd belief, is Scientology. L. Ron Hubbard was a modern Joseph Smith with far more avarice and far less interest in teaching people to live decently. The Patriot wrote:87 - what do you think about Muslims and Jewish people in the same context?
87, why do you choose this medium to declare your stance on religion so much? I dont have firm beliefs in anything and actually agree with what you wrote but why in the world do you go on anti-religious diatribes on umasshoops.com? This is like the 3rd time Ive seen this shit from you, just shut the fuck up already dude. Literally no one cares how you, UMass87, feels about any of it.
So ridiculous how super-PC kid tries to carve out Judaism and Islam, while attacking politically incorrect faiths for "magic". Really, compare the Old testament to the New testament kid.vanmeter wrote:87 I am a Catholic and resent your foolish rants.
I do not really care what religion (if any) that you are but keep your religious beliefs to yourself.
But this is how deep left wing poison corrupts. Open season on Catholics and Morons because they are not part of our coalition, but Jews and Muslims are part of our self-declared victim classes, so lets no attack their faith.
Anyone who thinks Catholism has more "magic" than Judaism is a bona fide bigot, idiot, and tool of political manipulators
So who has a phobia about religion and who is the bigot. As the Catholic Church teaches we are all Gods children and are to be loved in spite of their failings. Love thy neighbor as thy self for the love of God. That applies to those that are not in agreement with you. I love you 87, I love DG and pray for your salvation whether or not you want my prayers. I believe in the resurrection, trans substantiation, in fact I received the Eucharist this evening at a Eucharist Mass. I did indeed pray for understanding of DG situation by many do not share the love for their neighbors. Intolerant bigots who demonstrate their hatred for gender identification, religious beliefs of others, racial stereotypes, and political positions come in all stripes and are not just wacko right wing fascist homophobes as some would lead us all to believe. 87 appears to justify his intolerance of Catholics, Mormans, Prop 8 and who knows what else, but cannot accept intolerance shown by others if he is in disagreement with them. Not that intolerance for any reason is acceptable.
I hope and pray the it all works out for DG and the University. I hope and pray that 87 can put aside his religious hostility and achieve tolerance in his own mind that he demands of others. Afterall this is all about tolerance. In that light why would one what to write to offend.
God bless.
