As would the other 1-2 seeds, Villanovas the weakest of that group in my opinion. They have good wins, but if they didn't play in the Big East they wouldn't have the record they have.

Villanova just lost to
16-16, 6-12 in the BigEast Seton Hall! If Providence can beat SJ's later today they would face Seton Hall with the winner moving into the BigEast finals. This would greatly improve Providence's chances at making the dance and help UMass..

Seton Hall would be Top 2 in the A 10, not even close.

What's FSU's RPI Chris? That would be another Top 50 loss.
And will they get above 50 just by playing Virginia?

Florida Stat's RPI is 53.

As I said, Villanova is overrated.
Cannot believe they lost to Seton Hall!

FSU was 55 before Maryland win. They moved to 53 with the win. I would not expect them to be Top 50 with a loss to UVA. At this point in the season your own w/l record impacts your RPI far more than a single opponents w/l record. They'd probably stay at 53 or drop a spot or two with a loss.
A win would jump them into the Top 50, most likely. And would definitely put them in the tournament.

Lunardi had been saying that if Nova won the Big East tournament they'd be a 1 seed.

As far as I'm concerned, this shows that motivation is very important in college basketball and not all motivation is created equal. Teams that know they're already in the tourney and are only playing for seeding, are not nearly as motivated as teams that are playing for their post-season lives.

^True. The reality also is that there simply aren't very many teams that can withstand a bad shooting night and still win. Kansas (when Embiid is healthy) and Florida (and arguably Zona, though I admittedly haven't seen enough of them to say so with much certainty) are the only transcendently athletic teams that can struggle from the field and still be good enough to win. Otherwise, any team within the top 50-75 that plays hard and smart and knocks down open looks can beat anyone else. It's really as wide open a field as I can remember. Wichita State is perhaps the only team that plays with that kind of intensity/energy every single night, but they aren't so athletically dynamic as to be able to withstand a shitty shooting night and still win against, say, a 25-35 type team.

Not to mention that teams ranked in the 20s (like SMU) and those just outside of the rankings that lose create space for UMass to move up. Even with just 1 win against URI.
This means we have to (and this has really been true for the entire season) seize the opportunity. We control our destiny (not to something ridiculous like a #1 seed, but you get the point).

I am shocked. I thought Villanova would have an easy path to the Big East championship game.

After the loss he still has them as a #1. Obviously that can change, but the loss itself didn't knock them down.
How about Ken Pom's favorite team putting up 13 in the first half against Arizona. Talk about efficiency.....
