And a slight chance Bryant College could win the Northeast Conference too.gosox22 wrote:This could be a big year for New England in the NCAA's. Current projections:
UMass
Harvard
Providence
BU
Vermont
UConn
Not a bad representation for the region, although I struggle to include UConn in a group representing our region since I don't consider Connecticut part of New England.

Joe Lunadri chat today.
http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/50095
One question about UMass.... his answer doesn't make a whole lot of sense. He has them at a 6 seed now and says if they win out AND win the A10 they are a 5 seed? If they win out and win the A10 that gives them a 28-5 record with at least one win over StL in the regular season and at least another quality win in the A10 tourney if not more. Plus all their top 50 RPI wins already in the bank. 28-5 and the A10 championship has to be a 3 seed, 4 at worst.
Nate (Boston)
With UMASS moving up to a 6 after last nights win, if they were to win out, including knocking off St. Louis in the regular season final, and winning the A10 tourney, what is the best case for them? 5 seed?
Joe Lunardi (2:15 PM)
Yes, I believe UMass could be a No. 5 seed (if only because winning the A-10 tournament would very likely include multiple big wins along the way). A different question might be, for this year's field, that it's more advantageous to be a six seed?!?

and they had lost 3 previous to his suspension (they have NO reason to think they would have won those games with Smart). If they don't win one of the games against the ranked teams they still have left to play then they really don't deserve to be in AT ALL, and will be precariously on the bubble. It will be a terrible decision if the committee let's them in if they don't get one of the last 2 against the ranked teams (if they don't make a long tourny run). If they get one of those then yes, they are probably in. It's a team that will easily get knocked off the bubble come conference tourny time if they don't get a ranked victory/bomb out of the Big 12 tourny.natwam2547 wrote:^ You don't think so? I have a hard time believing they will be kept out. Even if they go 1-2 in these last 3 look at some of the teams still projected in. I mean really...Tennessee? The committee will want the star power and I don't think they will hold the 3 game suspension against them when push comes to shove.

I don't think I've checked a projection he's done in 5 years at any point in the years.UMass87 wrote:No question for me that UMass is better off as a six then a five but Lunardi really is a tool. If UMass won out and won the A10 they'd be a three at worst. He really is a blowhard.
(however I think at worst they'd be a 5, but probably a 4 with an argument for a 3)

I like that breakdown/analysis of Florida. Why don't we run that roll & replace with Carter or Putney taking the three?Kosty wrote:SI weighs in with the latest power rankings.....

Who cares what he thinks other than another talking head giving Umass some press.

There's really nothing worse than a member of the media who overtly peppers their comments with support of the team for which they root. Have to really give kudos for our beat writers and media (e.g. Matt V., Josh Maurer, et al.) - all the Tweets, broadcasts and articles pretty much are impartial even though they want UMass to win.
I expect the Duquesne commentators to quietly say things like "Chaz Williams really isn't too good" while literally screaming "DUQUESNE SCORES AGAIN! YES! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! OH YEAH!" when they make a basket.

They would have an RPI of 6 if that happened, to say they would be a 6 or 5 seed just shows the lack of attention to detail that goes into those chat sessions, human error, and bias these guys have. It's not a bad thing and perfectly natural for all humans. It's also DUMB!jdawg 43 wrote:I don't think I've checked a projection he's done in 5 years at any point in the years.UMass87 wrote:No question for me that UMass is better off as a six then a five but Lunardi really is a tool.
