The turnovers hurt UMass in the first half and the missed free throws and inability to hit 3's hurt them all game long. Chaz allowed a lot of penetration, but the defense was actually decent for the most part, Matthews and Munford got hot in the 2nd half and were hitting their shots. UMass out-rebounded URI and I thought the energy was where it needed to be. I was really surprised UMass didn't press more.

URI is a streaky team that can play well when they're hot. They only lost to SLU by 1 at home, so just getting a win at their place is a good thing.

Who is the bald guy who is the 'daddy' of uri that was weird- serious energy in that building
Dude that was so weird. He was screaming at the UMass bench and holding up his stupid signs the entire game. He doesn't even cheer for URI, he just throws negative energy at the opponent the entire game.

Pretty embarassing for a grown man. Dude needs to get a life.

Now, had anyone a tape of the St. Bona game, we could see who it was on the Bona team who interfered with a hoop. Oh, but that wasn't called. As were many other things that would have helped UMass.

I love Put, and I know he makes a lot of dumb plays, but, really ,you could have an entire highlight film with just him on it. Great win. Any win on the road is tough.

The guy under the basket near the Umass bench, who looked liked Uncle Festus from the Adams family, was about as obnoxious as you get.

The Putney block is clearly the play of the year not only for UMASS, but for all of college basketball. No doubt, no question, Play. Of. The. Year.
I'm going to assume you're joking about that, but it was definitely a big play and helped seal the win for us today. Putney is maddeningly inconsistent, but he's consistent in his inconsistencies if that makes sense.

I don't like seeing him dribble the ball, make cross court passes, or attempt layups from inside of 5 feet.

I like seeing him pull up from 3 without hesitating (most of his awful misses seem to come when he thinks about whether or not to shoot the three), dunk the ball and drive when he's got space to the basket.

URI committed 3 fouls towards the end of the game to stop the clock, UMass went 5-6. So prior to those fouls UMass had been 14-23 from the line (2 fewer attempts) and the team fouls would've been even at 19.

Sure - will take a little while as that was like 20 minutes of actual time.

VCU has a similar person as well.

Right before that Putney block I was thinking to myself how predictable it is that Putney was going to commit a dumb foul and URI would get an and 1 out of it... then BAM, one of the most amazingly awesome plays of the year.

Scottie - please post the final 5 or 6 minutes if you have it.

Can anyone summarize the last 5:00 minute stretch?

Gotta admit I wasn't sure we were going to pull that one out. Very impressed with Matthews and Munford. Rhody played tough and aggressive. Cady got schooled by E.C.
With 40 seconds left PootKnee had an absolutely sick block to protect a 3pt lead.
With 31 seconds left Chazz made both FTs to get it to 5pts
With 19 seconds left your guy Matthews clanked a 3ptr
With 13 sec left my guy Trey locked it up with 2 made FTs

Game, set, match!

It's definitely a top 3 play of the season for us...for all of college basketball? C'mon man.

Just off the top of my head, Arkansas tip slam that beat Kentucky makes Putney's dunk look like the equivalent of any other buzzer win, at best, for example.

Nobody on the team I would rather have than Trey to take clutch free throws. He has a pattern of making them that started last year in A10 tournament.
