Doesn't matter. You're in a dangerous position when you're going up for a layup and get hit from behind. That's why I hate those plays. You can't fault the defensive guy for trying to make a play, but it's such a risky play with very low reward that I just wish they'd let it go.
Like I said, I've seen too many guys get seriously injured on plays from behind. Hate seeing it.
Even beyond injury risk, when you hit the guy who blew by you going in for a layup, you aren't playing defense. I don't see how it's any different from a clear path foul.
