I missed the Dr J era by a year so I can't speak to his career. That being said, yesterday's performance by Chaz was the single best performance of a Umass basketball player that I've ever witnessed. Thirty- two points, five for five from three, fifteen assists and only one turnover. Marcus Camby's dismantling of Tim Duncan is a close second.

^Haha, I saw that, too. The truth is, Boston.com is pretty insignificant in today's sports writing landscape. When I was a kid, I used to pore over the Globe of the 1990's with its plethora of incredible writers. Now, those writers are literally all gone. The only writer worth visiting is Chad Finn, but the golden era of the Globe sports department is long gone. WEEI.com, ESPN Boston, the Herald, GammonsDaily.com, the Celtics blogs, PFWonline.com, etc are all better sources in today's world than the Globe. The Globe is mediocre at best now, and that's from someone who grew up worshiping the Globe. And, of course, for UMass coverage, hahaha...

This was quite good. Bartley IV (Innervision's cousin?) never saw it coming. Maxie. Outstanding.

At least the Globe ran a story and not a brief. But, the story is on page 16 of the sports section. Wonder where the story would be if Chestnut Hill Community College was 8-0 and in the top 25?

Carlino, Mika, Collinsworth and Haws are very good offensive basketball players.... but did not seem to have the necessary commitment on the defensive side of the ball yesterday... frankly, we could have gotten any shot we wanted and for the most part we did. would be surprised if they are not a tourney team... look forward to next year when we travel to play them... i think its fair to say that would have been one hell of a win for the cougars considering the opponent and the amount of travel.

Eric Mika has a very good shot of having a career in the NBA. I wonder how close BC was to getting him--- according to his profile on the BYU website, he was considering Weber State, Utah State, Utah, Stanford and Boston College

That would justify a Special Edition.

Enjoyed reading through this thread. Agree with most everything said, especially DG's contribution being overlooked, Maxie's great game, Chaz's unbelievable performance, Sampson's strong, dependable 20, Putney's all-around game plus his surprising leadership at times on the court, Trey's ball-handling and penetration, Tyler's taking-over of Cady's role, and so on. Just a great game. Keep it going guys here and on the court!

Great to meet you Marty, Party (Marty's inverse), Mlaconte, and lurker friends.

It was amazing to be able to take in a game and not worry about people telling you to sit down. Many props on getting some chants going!

So many contributors and so many ways to win. We have battled defensive maulers in Clemson and outscored a team who was/is top 10 in PPG in all of D1.

Can't wait for NIU and the rest of the season. See you all there!

What a game. The atmosphere was great and UMASS fans really stepped up in getting out to Springfield for this one. Saw so many familiar faces in the stadium and at the pre and post game.

BYU likes to run and gun, and they felt that they could out-run and gun another run and gun team. Boy were they wrong. They wanted a track meet and not only were we game, we pretty much had them playing catch up from the get-go. This game will be a blueprint for other teams the rest of the way (see Season thread in a bit for more thoughts on that).

Going in, I certainly was concerned about whether or not we'd be up to the task.... part of that just a concern about getting over the 7-0 hump because, well, we went 7-0 a few years ago and we know how that turned out (really, just a mental thing for me..)... the other part was that I just had the feeling that a shoe was going to drop. Fortunately, that feeling is now officially gone. We are the real deal.

Chaz just did his thing, and honestly, I had no idea he had as many points as he did until late in the game. That was the single best individual performance I've ever seen. 32 and 15? Keep that up, Chaz and I know where your number will be hanging...

It was interesting to see the two different speed gears we have. 1st gear is with Cady in the game. We run, but it's much more reserved. 2nd gear is without Cady and my god do we run.. it's a frantic pace and the biggest difference between they style the last 2 years and this year is that the players are in control when they are in this 2nd gear. It's fun to watch.

Sampson was also great and it was nice to see him shake off the less-than-stellar performance the other night at EMU.

There seemed to be a lot of grumbling about Davis shooting 3s both on the pages during the game and around me at the game. Other than one 3 where he was waaaaaay too deep, I thought his shot selection was fine, he just was having an off night. It happens. If they were poor shots, I would have been screaming and yelling too.

As a fan, I've never had a more personally satisfying experience then the U-MASS chant yesterday. It was such a great feeling to have the whole stadium (as far as I could tell...) doing it with me and THEN having Putney drain that three, right in front me, as I ended the chant.... it was surreal. I love doing that but I don't know if it will ever be better than yesterday.

Overall, I was pleased with how we played on offense and the defensive effort considering the opponent and the way they play. It was a track meet and it was just a fun game to watch. This UMASS Basketball team is a GREAT PRODUCT and if you haven't gotten to see them in person, buy your tickets now. They are going to get scarce is things progress as they are....
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

Add another to the list of those who would love to see the TV broadcast of this game. Being there in person was beyond description, but I really want to hear the commentary and see the action one more time.

Seeing that it was a CBS Sports broadcast, I doubt that they will do a broadcast. If it was on a channel that I could record I would have recorded it and have it available.
