McGuirk already has 'chairbacks.'

Ed, you still haven't answered my question. Did you purchase a license plate? Since the last go-around was a failure (who spearheaded that project BTW?), the least you can do is succumb and purchase a plate. It goes toward scholarships. Can't wait to see you roll into Gillette with a UMass plate on your car! Perhaps you can walk around Mullins with a sign promoting the attempt to get the next 1,500 plates? Better late than never.

Swampy, I stand corrected, sort of. As of 2011, McGuirk technically had a few chairbacks. Who knows if they will remain after the remodel? Considering all of the construction directly above them, it makes sense to remove them. Is there any knowledge that the Vic Fusia seats will remain after the new press box is built?

According to the constant email updates I receive, the inmates at Walpole are putting the finishing touches on the plates. Just like every else involving the Commonwealth, it takes time.

Do people here feel that a refurbishment along the lines of the JMU upgrade is out of the question?

25+K seats with some decent amenities. Are there enough interested fannies out there to fill those seats?

My ideal is still one marque game at Gillette and the rest at a refurbished (which includes assorted road upgrades) McGuirk.

I would love to see a complete refab/expansion of McGuirk. I just don't think it is in the cards until UMass can bang out McGuirk at 17k. Even then I have a hard time seeing them spend cash on seatbacks (well, maybe for an expanded "Fusia" section).

I do agree, I foresee UMass playing four games at McG and one marquee game at the Razor.

Signs...
The offer was extended to the AA several times, even after I was out of the picture...

Your AA friends rejected it, each and every time.

"Succumb"
Is that a dire prediction for the success of this program?
---------------------

SCHOLARSHIPS...
I was the leading proponent to have 100% of the revenue applied to SCHOLARSHIPS for in-State students. (referred-to repeatedly on this site).
Where were you when this could have been an active issue to resolve?

Chancellor Lombardi supported the concept...

As reported on this site, after the annual dues program was abandoned, spearheaded by the previous two Presidents, it was stated in writing by the Immediate Past President that they were looking into ways to use License Plate revenues for purposes other than SCHOLARSHIPS, to help replace revenues lost by the failed dues program.

The AA marketed the LP revenue for scholarships and student programs.
Now, after the 1,500 have been submitted to the RMV...

"How will the special plate benefit UMass?
Proceeds from the special plate fee will support scholarships and programs provided by the Alumni Association that advance UMass Amherst."

The current and recent leadership of the AA, admins and volunteers, rejected committing 100% of Plate revenue to SCHOLARSHIPS, as well as what % of the revenues will go to SCHOLARSHIPS under their guidance.

"Since the last go-around was a failure (who spearheaded that project BTW?)"

You are asking the wrong person(s)

Annual Revenue per Plate: $20...
If you want to challenge my contributions to UM...

Post your lifetime summary of donations; then, I will do mine.
(summary available through link on your AA website page)

We can compare our UMass Plates @ Gillette this Fall...

Redacted.

P.S. Glad to see you finally participating in the AA again!

Oops, my bad. Didn't see that in the middle of his incoherent rant. Thank you for pointing that out! :)

No reason to let the facts get in the way of a nonsensical rant, but why not give it a shot plus I might know one or two things about the UMass license plate.

The following is from the Massachusetts General Laws (Part I, Title XIV, Chapter 90, Section 2F, Paragraph C) legislating specialty license plates; “Distinctive registration plates to be considered by the registrar pursuant to this section shall include, but not be limited to, plates that will benefit the following agencies, charities, causes or nonprofit organizations:…”, “…the University of Massachusetts scholars fund and alumni fund…”.

Contrary to what Ed has repeatedly ranted and raved and erroneously purported here on Hoops.com as well as in emails to various University administrators for that matter, the proceeds the Alumni Assn receives from the UMass specialty plate, as mandated by law, goes toward supporting scholarships and alumni programming. Proceeds from the plate cannot go toward supporting the Alumni Assn’s general operating budget.

I have posted this before, going back to its beginning Fall 2003

Including the six years I served on the AA BOD, I have never seen a copy of the referred to Alumni Fund...

I welcome a link to it.

I do not have any idea what you have or have not seen nor do I care. Read the MGL link you posted Ed. Paragraph C. It's right there.
