I was watching a few minutes of the Bruins/Carolina game last night, and the house in Raleigh appeared to be only about 15% full; (coincidentally, I am having lunch today with their tix person's dad, so that could be one topic over eats).

If you are eating "desert" at lunch, next time try the camel sundae.

I'm leaning towards either Korean...the restaurant has a take of your shoes, sit on floor pillows section, or Asian with a nice sushi bar, to go with the organic berry/juice thick mix for breakfast.

I brought this back up to showcase some analysis I worked on this morning (I have no life and I like numbers).

First, I took the aggregate NCAA data and ranked the teams in the Atlantic 10 based on average home attendance.

Dayton 12,597
Xavier 9,902
Richmond 5,918
Rhode Island 5,863
Temple 5,782
St. Bonaventure 5,337
Duquesne 4,032
St. Joseph's 3,986
George Washington 3,429
Massachusetts 3,192
LaSalle 2,352

This is very misleading. Some schools play to packed home courts that are very tiny. To look at this effect, I divided average attendance by court capacity to get average percent of arena capacity. The capacities were listed on the various team websites. I had to find a weighted average for capacity at St. Joe's b/c they played a few home games at the Palestra.

I did this because I was curious if the "programs that should be kicked out" actually drew folks. Schools like Duquesne fill their arenas more than halfway. Of course these statistics can be interpreted different ways and could mean different things to others.

If you are interested, the average percent capacity in the A-10 is about 72%.

You said it already, but I'll reiterate. Unless teams sell out with somewhat consistency, % of capacity means virtually nothing. If the Bill held 6,000 people instead of over 9,000, they would have filled more than half the building. I'm not saying the attendance has been good, just that these statistics are misleading. Then again, what statisitics aren't.

I agree with you. The stats I calculated may not mean a thing. Percent capacity does not indicate how dedicated the fan base is, popularity, how much money the school makes per game, etc. This type of analysis was used a couple months ago on the college hockey message boards and many brought up the same point you made.

The only counter argument I could provide is arena construction. I'm sure a good chunk of these arenas were built with capacity in mind. They were constructed knowing they could fill the place.

P.S: I read somewhere that most movie theaters operate at 15% capacity (they make their money on the drinks and candy)........

What do you mean "he still thinks?" Nothing has happened since the contract was restructured. Why would his decision to keep Lappas have changed since then. And God forbid we wait until the season actually starts before we start ripping McCutcheon for his decision.
