Lasme leaves CU

Post by Rocks22 » Mon Jul 05, 2004 11:39 am

The Buffs, who lost center David Harrison to the NBA Draft and the Indiana Pacers a week ago, have even more rebuilding to do with news that point guard Mike Lasme, who transferred to CU from Massachusetts in the spring of 2003, has left the program.

"It was totally unexpected," Patton said of Lasme's departure. "We still have Marcus Hall and Antoine McGee, so I think we're in pretty good shape at that position."

Good luck to Mike in wherever he chooses to go from here. Sounds like he's not really sure what he wants to do or is getting some really bad advice. Hope he is able to get things sorted out for himself.

No, he's fine on this one. The 13-16, 11-18, and 10-19 performances over the past 3 seasons and the 34% of capacity attendance at the Bill is plenty to lay on him.

Hey Rocks, do you know if Lasme loses another year of eligibility if he transfers again, even if he never played in a game there? It would be tough for him to lose more eligibility. It's too bad, the kid has some good skills

I don't think he'll lose a year of eligibility, but he probably has to sit out another year before he can begin to play. Then he would have two years to play wherever he chooses to go. I'm not totally certain though.

did he fulfill a year's academic work there? I would think he did based on the time of initial transfer, otherwise he loses another year again...

Feato, he loses another year if he HAS completed an academic year or has NOT? Kind of a weird situation, can't imagine it happens very often. Imagine if he wanted to come back to UMass to take over the point when AA leaves. I wonder if that has ever happened anywhere.

Thinking back the last couple years the only situation like this I can think of is Luke Recker who transferred from Indiana to Arizona after playing for two years. He then transferred from Zona to Iowa after his girlfriend was seriously injured in a car accident during the year he was sitting out. He sat out an additional year and then played his one remaining year of eligibility with Iowa, so I would have to think that Lasme would have two years to play starting in 2005-2006.

Sounds to me the kid needs to get his head on straight. It maybe a family thing. There was some problem for his Mother in Africa a year or so. That is of course if this old memory isn't thinking of some kid named Murphy.

obg,

I can't agree with you more. The kid sounds like he's lost his compass. I hope he has some close folk who will take him under their wing and give him a bit of TLC, and maybe a kick in the rear, if it is needed.

I wish Mike the very best, and don't have clue what that might be for him.

This pretty much confirms prior discussion on Lasme. It made absolutely no sense when he left UMass and it makes absolutely no sense that he left CU. Its really too bad because he seems like a fine young man who just makes poor decisions with regard to his collegiate basketball career. He could have stayed in Amherst, played ball and gotten his degree. Instead he is looking at his 3rd school in as many years and not having any continuity. Best of luck to Mike, hopefullly he will find his way.

It's absurd to say that his leaving UMass made absolutely no sense.
