I take back what I said earlier... had we blown that game in the fashion we were trending, then it wouldn't have been a good loss for the fanbase. What a terrible 2nd half!
BUT, they did a great job of keeping their composure in the last 5 minutes and had built a big enough lead to never let SLU get close enough.
What a first half... amazing. Best half of basketball I've seen a DK team play. The Mullins was absolutely ROARING as the clock was winding down in the first. And the designed lob to Putney with a one second to go from out of bounds was very well executed... we were all flipping out about it, and it didn't even go in!!! Jesse Morgan's lob to Putney in the 2nd half was also fantastic.
Freddie was great early, TV struggled but quietly put some good points on the board, Put was great, Chaz was overall great but struggled to keep himself under control in the 2nd (I though DK should have pulled him for a minute, let him regain composure... alas, we won!), and Carter was also solid (as always!) Big Mystery also saw 7 seconds of playing time!
I think the 8,399 is a bit inflated, but the place was rocking regardless of the number of people.
Doesn't this feel good?????

Great win
I'm proud to be an Alum. Happy for the Coaches, players and fans.
Players played hard and smart. UMass fans deserve this. Nice to see the excitement. Great win!

Where was the person sitting that you saw wearing that shirt? I was actually wearing that tee at the game but I'm sure I wasn't the only one wearing it at the game lolm626t wrote:Freddy nailed to the pine in the second half raised a few eyebrows. the offense in the second half seemed to vanish with Chaz seemingly losing his mind at times but maybe that's just my take. Skinny was great in the first but seemed to be banged up in the second half and not as effective. Sounds like i'm stating the obvious. sorry... whatever, great win to keep building on.
best Tee shirt I saw today- "UMass Fuckin Amherst".

The thing at UMass is if the games are at night the students rather go out..and one of our favorite past times here is day drinking so give us a day game and it gives us the excuse to drink again and go to a great game.
UMASSSSSSSSSSSSS lets go
edit: I read your comment wrong..yes I hope youre right and the crowd will be even bigger for the Xavier game, cant wait

Told you man...the buzz around campus was big for this game and a lot of people were talking about it. Every time I told people to go they were already said they thought about it which is a lot better than usual.Pierce9999 wrote:Not neccessarily...we play Xavier at home in late Feb...believe it's school vaca week...if we continue to do well and win this game tomorrow....that game will draw big as well...inthescoop wrote:All I gotta say is...this will definitely be the most packed game of the year at home. The students are actually talking about this one, we will be there.

Gave me a chuckle.m626t wrote:Freddy nailed to the pine in the second half raised a few eyebrows. the offense in the second half seemed to vanish with Chaz seemingly losing his mind at times but maybe that's just my take. All I can say is WOW!! As others have said, the first half was as good as we have played in years and most of the credit goes to Put. They had no answer for him. I knew that Majerus would make adjustments at the half, and they clogged the middle and asked us to take 3's. But to our credit, we kept trying to work it inside, we just weren't very smart about it. Chaz got out of control for about 10 minutes, but he came through at the end with great assists to TV and Sean as well as making his free throws. This team is so much more mentally tough than in the last few years. They don't fold when things start going wrong. Props to Sean, who is playing the best ball of his career at UMass, by leaps and bounds.
Kickdrum, good seeing you at the Hangar.

I parked in Campus Ctr garage at 11am and asked girl student at info desk if UPub was open before game. She said "what game?". We ended up at Pub downtown and on way to Mullins saw huge stream of kid coming out of SWest to game. We had a great time and did have a few pitchers at UPub in Campus Center après game. Sleeping on campus in hotel tonight for first time since living in the dorms in 1982. Good times.

Just got back from the game - that was awesome. More than 8,000 fans, students lining up by the hundred to get into Mullins, and I had a chance to hang out with old friends. That's what this is all about.
My only complaint is that there was no way for me to know who from "the board" was around. It would be good to meet some of you on a great UMass day like today.
GO UMASS!

Just got back. The first half was the best I have seen a Umass team play in some time. While I thought the D was still good the 2nd half, the offense had far too many turnovers and forced shots.
Putney was a big time game. My opinion a lottery pick in 2 years.
Great to see the Juice back in the house!!
