wow xlg, pretty amazing how many people came out to support the team even late into DK's first season when it was apparent that the magic of the prior year wasn't going to be duplicated. Shows that the local fan base exists but apparently has been very skeptical since then. Hopefully Saturday proves they're still paying attention. I still think we get 7K. 7044 prediction.

I really really hate the THIS IS A BIG ONE stuff. I think every game is a big one.

Standings aside though, Umass has a real opportunity here to impress people in the stands and give them a reason to keep coming back, and that to me is more important that anything right now. We all complain about the lack of support, but it has to be earned back, and this is the golden ticket! They have had a couple of chances to gain some momentun in recent years, only to lay an egg (most recent being that disasterous Maine game).

In my humble opinion, a raucous home crowd can win one game per year for a team, and that has not been the case for a very long time. I think we can all agree that a happy arena is one in which the season ticket holders are bitching because they have to stand up more often!!!!!

I have not been as jacked up for a home game this much since the last time Uconn came here....

While I don't want the team to start by being down 15, I have come to the conclusion that we actually play better from behind. We seem to be like the Patriots where we kind of stink right out of the gate and then we settle down. We seem to always make a run in the second half. While I would love us to be up 20 the entire game, I don't want people panicking if in the first 7 min if we are down 10pts.

This is true that this is one of the most anticipated games in awhile. This is for sole possession of first place. I'm going to the Boston bar out here to watch it. Damn, I wonder if there is a Umass alum in Chicago to get a group?? Go Umass!!!!

While I agree that UMass needs to start the game strong, I take comfort knowing that UMass has been a second half team this season.

Looking forward to beating the grinch. 8)

Something to prove

Massachusetts. The Minutemen are one of six teams with two league losses in A-10 play, which puts them tied atop the conference. They play host to Saint Louis, another one of those teams, on Saturday (2 p.m., A-10 syndication/Comcast Sports Net New England/Comcast-Charter Sports Southeast). UMass has benefited from an easy early league schedule, and it’s easy again after the visit from the Billikens. A win and UMass should contend until the end.

All I gotta say is...this will definitely be the most packed game of the year at home. The students are actually talking about this one, we will be there.

The game is tomorrow and this thread already has as many pages as some completed game threads. Think there's some anticipation building????

I can't wait for this game. While I want to see a win, I'm more concerned with the way we play. We can lose (and losing this one isn't like losing to Fordham), but we have to lose close and play a great game. If there are as many people there as we think there will be, this team needs to suck them back in with a great game, win or lose.

I was in the corporate locker room earlier and guys were talking UMass Basketball. There is a palpable buzz right now about the program. The stars are lined up tomorrow....good weather, no NFL, Saturday matinee (Sunday matinees were no good), first place in A10 on the line and a fan base that has been wandering in the desert and can now see the oasis of an NCAA bid within reach. Get lubricated, paint your face or body, stick a basketball on your head and get in your seats early. Coach Cal always said luck is when preparation meets opportunity. One Derek Kellogg better be prepared as this is his opportunity to become "the chosen one" to get us back to the Promised Land.

Yes! Big game for the coach....tough coach on the other end, and a tough team to play against. Time for DK to show us what he's got!

Also - checked TM and tickets are still available in the lower section - I saw them as low as row 9 - so don't think GA is sold out.
