Whoa whoa whoa, hold on here a second boys. I did not assume the position of administrator here NOR did I state that this was a board that belong to anyone other than Mike. There is no reason to pull rank or anything here. I didn't say that it was "OK" to post a rumor, I just said "go ahead, but...".
Rumors are posted all the time. That is a fact. Some are harmless ("I heard high school recruit X is visiting campus this weekend") and some are not so harmless ("I heard that current player Y got booted off the team"). You can like them, or you cannot like them. Mike chooses to not like them, and that is his right. I was just cautioning that if you choose to post a rumor, be prepared for potential consequences. Those consequences can either be in the form of the rules of the board, or what someone else decides to do to you. I used a personal example to justify my post.
I was just trying to shed some light on this whole debate, which shouldn't even be a debate.
It really is that simple.

Personally I like to punish people for posting rumors by continually bringing them up to embarass them.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: I was just cautioning that if you choose to post a rumor, be prepared for potential consequences. Now excuse me as I go back to enjoying the Mike Jarvis era here at UMass.
To Mike:
What if ShanMan posted something along the lines of, "I have inside information on a recent incident involving a UMass basketball player in potential legal trouble. PM me if you want to know more."
Is that okay? I would still like to be kept in the loop as these things come up and make my own decision as to whether or not they're credible.

I have far less of a problem with that, because it's not posted out in the open.MassMan06 wrote:To Mike:

I don't like the gossip factor, but if it's not posted on the public forum, I have no control over what people will say privately.

On the UMass athletics website. In Wiggins bio his quoted as saying
"Best Part about Living in Amherst: Nothing around to get you in trouble"
DK on Wiggins
"Doug Wiggins has been unbelievable since coming to UMass."
DK was right. He has been unbelievable since coming to UMass....what a waste of talent.......

Mike is 100% right. Firts of all, it is unfair and hurtful to a player, coach, and team when rumors are started. Unless there is factual, hard evidence then it is not fair to put it up here. I have a close relationship with a lot of the players, but I'm not going to come on here and discuss there every move. As far as Wiggins, its not right because like Matt said, we are not credible unless we have something to prove it. Period. If there are no police logs or anything else then it just doesnt add up. YOUR word that something happened just doesn't cut it.
This whole thread is sad though.umassfan0000 wrote:Mike is 100% right. Firts of all, it is unfair and hurtful to a player, coach, and team when rumors are started. Journalists cite "unnamed sources" when they write stories. It's laughable to think that if someone who is active on these forums and has more credible, first-hand knowledge of a situation, that they should be forced to wait for what, the only 2 PEOPLE (Matt & Ron) to write about UMass happenings first. It's 2009. Next thing you know people on this board are going to tell us that we should be reading paper version of newspapers as the only source of news. Or throwing away cell phones for rotary land lines.
Rather than reinforcing such a stifling environment , we should be working on a thread to discuss ways to make UMassHoops.com a more enjoyable & fun place to participate in and perhaps actually get more people on board. It's always saddened me that UMass has such a minimal internet presence for basketball fans when compared to not just other national or regional fansites, but even in our own conference. Even worse when you see minimal programs in other, smaller conferences have such a stronger online presence that they can support multiple fansites, with more activity on each than we have on one.
