He's saying the right things. Talk is cheap, though. But it's definitely a step up from the immediate reaction he had after the arrest.
CWOF.....I believe that means he is NOT admitting guilt, just admitting that there are facts sufficient to render a guilty verdict. And it comes with a promise to stay out of trouble for a specified time period.
If he is truly looking to grow up a bit and start taking responsibility, having him back at practice is great.....sitting out just leads to more free time to get tempted to do bad things.....

From Matty's story:
Not to throw cold water on his return, but I still say that Wiggins should have been told before he even stepped on campus that his first UMass fuckup would also be his last UMass fuckup.Kellogg did not divulge whether Wiggins would face stricter scrutiny off the court than his teammates, but said he and the player had an understanding. "He knows where everything is," Kellogg said.
MullinsManiac is on a drug ... it's called MullinsManiac.
Just a few qualifiers in that quote, huh?"Returning gives him an opportunity for people to come get to know him. He can be a very endearing young man," Kellogg said. "If he can stay on the right path I think he can be great for the team and I think at some point he can be a good role model in the community. I'm pretty confident."
My translation is that DK feels that he's talking the talk but only time will tell if walks the walk.
If he does, the sky's the limit....both on and off the court.
It won't be easy. There's more on the line for this young man then basketball. Good luck to him. I hope he succeeds!

Are you guys for real? It's quite obvious that this is about Ball, period. It's why he was allowed to come here after all his troubles and everyone knows it. He's a great get for Umass and someone who can help DK get W's and that's the bottom line. Of course he was told that he gets one chance when he came here. He'll continue to get chances until theres a better replacement.
throwdown - What direction are you coming from? Coach, ex-UMass athlete, student, parent, fan?
When I was a UMass dorm counselor about 110 years ago, a very good frosh football player (frosh couldn't play varsity then) was heaved from the University because of my testimony about how drunk and abusive he was to our housemother one night after midnight. He was not given a chance to return. I was impressed. Strike one and you are out.
I wish Doug Wiggins well. I realize that he is trying to return from a difficult place. I would love to see him lead us to The Dance in 2010 or 2011. At the same time I hope that our coaches and administrators still have the stones to draw a line, no matter how many wins or dollars it might cost, if problems re-occur. We have several examples, in several sports, where over the years they did.

"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."
I'm not coming from any direction. I would like to see Wiggins take advantage of this oppurtunity to be a student-athlete at Umass. But there is a reality here, it's about ball. Iwas simply addressing that. Why else would Umass accept a student with this type of history and then allow him even one chance to mess up? Not saying that's right or wrong, but lets call it what it is.
