I agree with Chris20, and Doug has the opportunity to make it a private matter. Instead he has it so anyone that has Facebook at UMass can see what his deal is. This is a message board, not a newspaper article - this does not have to be objective journalism.

You tell me how anyone could take what he wrote as sarcasm, and in what possible context it would be even remotely acceptable?

They probably can't do that, legally. But they can sure educate them on what might be appropriate/inappropriate content.

They really should educate them on what is a good image for the university on facebook and what isnt. I know being a teacher we really have to tread lightly what we show on facebook. We are not even allowed to friend our students.

not sure, i'm just saying forming a public opinion on someone you've never met based on a facebook page is a little absurd.
My opinion is that his head is in his ass, and that he is not in a frame of mind to meet his responsibilities. This opinion was gleaned from his history of stupidity, and set in stone by his public reaction to it. Far from absurd.

Isn't it always Facebook and mySpace pictures that get kid kicked off teams and stuff??

And why can't I access his Facebook page?

That football player for Texas just got in trouble for his message after obama got elected.

If they can't legally, I'm very surprised they don't have an unofficial policy to make them private. I actually saw his page a while back and thought it was ridiculously immature and didn't reflect positively on his attitudes, but I didn't post anything here because it's only facebook. But to put up a message like that for anyone to see, it really just shows he doesn't "get it."

The LAST thing UMass needs when trying to build a strong program is this kind of B.S. Kellogg needs to dump this loser as quickly as possible. I guarantee that it will help to solidify him as the leader of the basketball program. I bet it would improve team chemistry as well. You can't have one kid who apparently dislikes "SchoOl and EverYthIng tHaT Has to Do w/ It" hanging around with kids who, I would like to think, are actually there for an education as well as to play basketball.

You are in the Boston network, not the UMASS network, that is why. You'd have to become friends with him first to see his profile.

Not true. I can see his full profile.

ktabz16 wrote:i say we keep the facebook stuff out of this thread. most often those things can get blown way out of proportion and taken out of context. let's just judge on the basis of the record, not a social networking site.
Sorry ktabz, I disagree. In this day and age, what a person publishes for many to see on their social network page is fair game. It's not like someone tapped his phone line and published something he said privately. This is something he's writing that thousands and perhaps millions of people can see. And since he's on scholarship (someone correct me if I'm wrong), that makes it more than fair. Free rides shouldn't be given to characters who don't conduct themselves appropriately. What they do in private is one thing. What they do/say for masses to see if another.

I'd like to think that my University doesn't condone a student athlete who posts on his profile:
- "Doug is not gon fold...i been thru worse and if u jus another person doubtin da kid then u can suck MY DICK..u either wit me or against me...owww." 11/25
- Favorite Books: "FUck SchoOl and EverYthIng tHaT Has to Do w/ It"
And has joined Facebook groups called:
- "REAL WOMEN GIVE HEAD"
- "Fuck Bitchs..Get Money"
- "If a Bitch Don't like me, Somethin wrong wit da bitch"

I'm gonna have a big problem with the Univ if they keep this guy on the team.

PS: What's also ironic is what one of his "friends" wrote on his Facebook wall on Friday:
"hows Umass ? make sure u dont slip up and do sum dumb shit like Uconn"
