I assume this is all "public information" somewhere and that some relatively simple research could yield the same info, but does anyone else question why the actual address has to appear in a newspaper article like this?

It just doesn't seem right.

How come I can't come up with a pithy SIGNATURE and cool AVATAR like everyone else here??
Good point OH. Just because it is public information doesn't mean it had to be published. The fact Derek bought TF house is minor news the exact address was not needed to make the point.OrchardHill75 wrote:does anyone else question why the actual address has to appear in a newspaper article like this?
Similarly. On the front page of the Republican there was a piece on a man charged with assault for punching a guy who harassed his wife. For some reason (the fact all three worked were government employees maybe) their salaries were also published. Their salaries have nothing to do with the assault or the harassment

That's journalism fellas... in the rare occasion that you can answer all of these questions, you do.

On the other hand, Ford paid about $675,000.00 for it three years ago when the housing market was at its height. Even with the improvements, it's a bit of a surprise that TF made money on the sale. By the way, the price McCutcheon paid for his house is also readily available on the web. Heck, the price of most any house that was bought or sold in the last five years is available online.

Why not just say, "DK bought TF's house in Amherst." Instead of giving the exact location. Just because something is public information does not mean that it has to be made even more public by putting it in the newspapers. What happens if DK tanks after the second season? You think that Mrs. Kellog is going to enjoy the mail that they may receive from some fans?

Crooks. The point of the story is Derek bought TF's house not Derek bought a house. The simple fact Derek bought a house is not really newsworthy. They would not have published anything about Derek buying a house if it wasn't TF's house.CrooksisRhyming wrote:who? - Derek Kellogg

You are correct those are the questions journalist should ask. However after they find the answers they then must decide which answers are important to or add to the story they are trying to tell. They don't/shouldn't just throw every piece of info they gather into a piece. Those choices are what divides good journalism from average journalism.
