They have the rights for him... A good thing bout summer league also is many international scouts come to the games looking for players as well. So he has many reasons to play hard.

Actually I do not think the team a undrafted player plays for has any exclusive rights to the player unless he is signed to a contract before the summer league.

Just as an FYI, the Wizards have only two open spots on their roster that they are hoping to fill with Arenas and Jamison. Because of this, the wizards traded Walker's rights for cash immediately after the draft. It would be awesome if Forbes plays well during the summer league and someone picks him up.

The NBA notes in today's Herald had a short take on why the C's passed on CDR and the reason was his defense. If they were looking for a strong defender then it's no shock they didn't take Forbes seeing as how that was the biggest knock on him from the workouts.

Too bad, but not a surprise. Consistent D was not a strength.

snippet from an article the other day in the San Antonio Express News...

One came last season against Massachusetts. Hill had struggled in the first half against Gary Forbes, a future Atlantic-10 Player of the Year and a player at the time rumored to be an NBA prospect.

“If you think you're a pro,” Hunter told Hill in the halftime locker room, “you have to be able to play with this guy.”

To that point, Hill had scored only four points. He finished with 30, leading his team to victory in the second half.

that game was brutal, but in retrospect not that bad...

Houston is a good team for him. They are thin in the backcourt, especially with big guards. They dont have a lot of roster spots "locked" down and they might also want to keep him around for the annual 20 games missed from TMac.

Houston and its GM Daryl Morey are renowned for taking a Moneyball-like stats based approach on a lot of their scouting. They also had unheralded players like Carl Landry play fantastic for them last year. It could be that some of Gary's stats like the 9reb/pg are helping him if he's on their radar. I'd also be interested if anywhere had adjusted +/- stats for college teams, I'm sure they do, and it could help narrow down the argument over whether Gary's .... aggressiveness shooting/driving at times helped or hurt the team overall.

Article dated 7/3 talks about the Wizards summer team. Good Luck to Gary on making the team and showing some things in Vegas
Baltimore native and College of Charleston point guard Dontaye Draper, former Indiana standout A.J. Guyton, former Massachusetts and Virginia swingman Gary Forbes and Fairleigh Dickinson forward Mike Peeples also are expected to try out for the team. Other hopefuls include former Wake Forest forward Vytas Danelius from Lithuania, Winthrop forward Taj McCullough and Drexel center Frank Elegar.

With the celtics missing out on F cory maggette and likely will not see james posey return is it possible the could pick up a combo F/G in Forebes if he performes well in the Summer league?
