I think it would be great in theory and would be all for it as he is a proven winner and it would bring lots of publicity, good and bad. The state could use a swift kick in the @$$ and he would provide it! I would love all the whining that would take place as people complain he is too hard on kids! He is old school and students these days are pampered wayyyyy too much.
Why it wouldn't work, I don't know if his style would fit well with the returning players. He wouldn't be in for anything long term, how can you build when you have to worry about the coach leaving not only after 1 or 2 years but in the middle of the season.
Why he will not be hired. University is too affraid to go out on a limb. University ran out the door a great womens basketball coach when players whined about her being a disciplinarian and the team's winning slowed. University wouldn't pay him enough.

On top of the fact that there is NO WAY IN HELL that Knight would be accepted in the Pioneer Valley especially after some of his comments about rape and the like......the hippies and lesbians would NEVER let it happen!!
So, are you saying that most of the people who purchase hoops season tickets can be shoehorned into one or both of those groups?Kosty wrote: On top of the fact that there is NO WAY IN HELL that Knight would be accepted in the Pioneer Valley especially after some of his comments about rape and the like......the hippies and lesbians would NEVER let it happen!!
It's not becuause he's an Ohio State alum, is it?
Not that it's gonna happen, but there are worse choices.
Ol' Bob may be outrageous, but he graduates 100% of his kids and runs a clean program. He may even have mellowed with age and experience.
UMass would win and get tons of publicity and recruits as a result...and his players love him.
Kosty -- thoe people folks bitch an moan anyway and they don't go to games.

And my point is that there are tens of thousands of people in the Valley who are neither lesbians nor hippies. Just because the squeaky wheel gets the grease doesn't mean that is runs the wagon.Kosty wrote:No, I'm saying the majority of the people in the area that wouldn't even think to attend basketball games would bitch and moan too much to make it even make sense to mention bringing Bobby Knight to Amherst.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I know more than a few people in each category that not only attend games but purchase season tickets for more than one sport at UMass.LS71 wrote:Besides, the people that Kosty referred to in his post don't go to games anyway, do they?
Why would anyone believe that people in either group wouldn't/couldn't play or enjoy sports?

Who cares? Ford, as of right now, is still the coach, and there is no way this school has the balls to bring in Bob Knight, and that isn't even taking into account the fact that no one knows if he A) wants to coach again, and B) would want to coach here.
I'd love to see him in the Mullins Center coaching the home team, but this discussion, right now, is pointless.

Not that anyone has suggested otherwise, but it is probably worth mentioning that it ain't just hippies and lesbians that might be offended by Knight's comments on rape and other issues.Swampy wrote:And my point is that there are tens of thousands of people in the Valley who are neither lesbians nor hippies.
