Game 8 - UMass visits Brown Sat March 26th 1 pm

Post by econalum » Wed Mar 23, 2022 8:19 am

Brown is ranked in the Top 15 in the Media poll. They are 5-2 overall, but 4-0 at home.

They lost to a very good Harvard team last Saturday by one goal.

They have a close history with UMass, with Gorillas holding a 6-5 edge, last playing in 2019 with a UMass win.

This is listed as a Women's lacrosse game, but here is the listed URL by Brown for ESPN+. I Will research further.

From FanLax - following a 12-11 Brown loss to Harvard last Saturday:

"It was a pretty poor game for the keeper in and out of the cage—obviously not ideal timing for the worst showing of the year. The failed clearing pass to a Harvard player for the empty net goal in a 1 goal loss…..ouch."

Really nice win by Gorillas. Down 3-5 at the half, they shut down Brown almost completely in the second half (with a 25 minute scoreless streak) and win 10-7 going away. Matt Knote played really well in goal, saving 67% of 21 shots.

Two Hat Tricks.

K Tobin had 4 goals
G Procyk had 3 goals

We seemed to be in much better condition down the stretch, winning the ground balls and clearing. Brown got very frustrated and started hacking away the last several minutes. Hard to imagine that a ranked D-1 team could go 25 minutes without scoring like that. Nice to see the camera shots of the ever-faithful UMass parents group in the stands.

lacrossereference.com gave us 3 stars as the most efficient defense in the country today - 18.9% - 7 goals on 37 possessions for Brown.

I drove over for the game yesterday, I used to live 2 blocks from the Brown field but a couple towns over now. A close friend's son plays for us & a couple local friends have kids playing for Brown so that made it interesting.

Thought our defense looked stout in the 2nd half and Brown looked desperate. A very solid win for the Gorillas. We'll take it.

Nice sourcing. Boy when you surf their site, the absolute dominance of Maryland shines through.

We make into Quint's Top 20:

19) UMass (5-3)
The Minutemen stomped on Brown, 10-7, winning the second half 6-2. Kevin Tobin found the net four times. Gabriel Procyk added a hat trick. Brown shot a paltry 7 of 46 with UMASS goalie Matt Knote making 14 saves. Garber’s Gorillas have losses to ranked BU, Army, and Yale. Lax Sports Network will televise their April 2 game against Delaware from Garber Field at 1pm.

The latest media poll effectively ranks UMass 22, and the Brown loss to UM knocked them out of the Top 20 and below UMass.

Nice win over Brown. I think Brown is a good rival for UMASS and that game should be played every year. The Gorillas seem to have turned a corner. Only losses to top 20 teams with 1 goal losses to Yale and Army. The BU loss was troubling.

Hope that UMASS continues this strong run and into the NCAA's. GO Gorillas! :D

IMO, If we beat Delaware, we'll be ranked in the Top 20.
