Game 5: Tues. 3/5 @ Albany @ 3 (time change)

Post by Old Cage » Mon Mar 04, 2019 11:04 am

The Great Danes are 1-2 with a bad loss vs. Cuse, a one goal loss to #3 Cornell (17-16), and a one goal win over Drexel. This is their home opener.

Gotta love that NCAA!

Although keeping the suspension alive until Wednesday might not have been a bad thing. :)

First win over the Great Danes since 2012, 14-8. Dominated all phases of the game. Sconone was immense.

Wanted to add to the discussion about Albany's star getting suspended for a game. It's my understanding that the Albany coach decided to hold him out of the game Saturday and not the NCAA and that the NCAA said there was no issue and he could play when it was brought to their attention. I could have that wrong, but it's what I read.

Goalie Sconone was good, but this is a definitely a down year for Albany. A needed win by the Gorillas for sure. Some very good, crisp passing inside, and much fewer unforced errors.

Correct about the NCAA. It was the Albany compliance officer. How does the coach not know that?

Possibly because he received inaccurate information from the Albany compliance department ? It wouldn't be the first time that an overzealous compliance officer has been wrong.

Was Gabriel Procyk a highly rated recruit or did he fly under the radar? Either way, kid looks like the real deal so far....

Happy to beat Albany. They seem to own UMASS over the years. Looked like a pretty solid beat down. Now if only the two OT games went the other way, UMASS would be sitting pretty.

I am glad to see UMASS recruiting Canadians, who often display 'close in' superior stick skills at attack, due to indoor lax, or 12 month lax. Overdue, in my view.

Surprised that he hails from British Columbia. Would seem outside our recruiting area.

Could not agree more with the recruiting Canadians comment. Both Procyk, and to a lesser extent Del Zotto have been pleasant surprises this season.
