UMass connections and success with the PLL

Post by econalum » Fri Jun 04, 2021 10:03 am

The season starts June 4th with a weekend full of lacrosse at Gillette.

Archers play Saturday night at 7:45 pm on the peacock network.

Chrome plays Sunday at 3:45 pm on the peacock network

PLL Schedule is here: https://premierlacrosseleague.com/schedule

Of note: Jeff Trainor has made the Archers team, no pic yet. https://premierlacrosseleague.com/player/jeff-trainor

It will be interesting to see how he is utilized at midfield.

Will Manny remains a mainstay at Attack for Archers. https://premierlacrosseleague.com/player/will-manny

Sean Sconone is on the Chrome roster as 1 of 3 goalies, no pic. https://premierlacrosseleague.com/player/sean-sconone

Week 1 - slow start for alums as Will Manny played and scored 1 goal and 1 assist in one game.

Trainor not on the game roster. Sconone dressed but DNP for Chrome

An interesting NY Times article about the PLL and Chris Hogan (you can sign up for limited free access):
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/13/spor ... -back.html
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

Nice find. The business model seems fraught, as in-stadium attendance lags with appx 90%+ empty seats. A good test will be Homewood in 2 weeks at Hopkins for attendance. TV and streaming ratings are tbd.

Update on UMass in PLL.

Will Manny has ramped up his points and goals totals for the Archers now standing 4th in points, and first in one point goals at 14 after 5 games played. https://stats.premierlacrosseleague.com/player-table, scoring on 50% of his shot attempts!

Sean Scanone on Chrome had his first start in the 5th game of the season Sunday vs. Archers. He had a rough first game, saving only 38% of shots, and showing some weakness on both 2 pt. shots, allowing 3, and on low/bouncing shots. https://stats.premierlacrosseleague.com/teams/CHR. Announcers felt that there was some miscommunication on D overall that screened some of the shots. One Archer admitted that the game plan was to challenge Scanone low.

Jeff Trainor is on the active roster for Archers, but has not entered a game yet.

IMO, physical attendance at these PLL games remains low, except for Baltimore last week with a 50% headcount limit at Hopkins.
