Don't know if we could ever be able to rival UConn but it would be nice to get into the top 25.

^ They seem to be playing pretty good ball under Verdi. If they had a few more players (think of the two who transferred) they probably would have a few more wins. Verdi seems to have been a really good hire. Don't know about challenging UConn.

I don't believe it. Parity is creeping steadily into NCAA D1 women's basketball. Heck, fifty years ago people were saying no one could ever compete with the UCLA men. Since Wooden retired they've won one NCAA championship. Auriemma won't be around forever.

(As a cox'n I'll also note that the Harvard Crews have not been as dominant since harry Parker passed away.)

That is a good point. I should have said as long as Geno is hoarding all the talent in Storrs, nobody will compete with UConn.

Gals lost another close one at VCU 55 - 52. Big comeback in the 4 th period fell short. Had a bad second period only scoring 5 points.

Ah, the old "for the flow of the game" argument. That works well in high school basketball here in MA.

Looks like the lack of bodies over the course is catching up with them. Knew it would likely happen at some point, but it does not diminish the change we've seen.

Regular season over. The Minutewomen finished at 3-13 in conference play, 13th place. Rhody came in last, at 2-14, after being picked to come in 9th.

Given how we were picked, by far, to finish last, and the shallow roster to play with, that's not a bad result. We all knew this year was going to be starting from almost square 1.

Tournament play is next. The ladies have to take the longest road trip for the first round, about 1100 miles to play at SLU on Sunday, at 3 Eastern / 2 Central. Richmond has to go about 6 miles to play VCU. Just a tad unfair, but hey, that's the seeding.

Given what Verdi had to work with, I don't think we could have expected much more. They simply didn't have the bodies to compete. It's too bad two of the better players on the team transferred when the previous coach was fired (and Verdi hired). I think this teams would have won a few more games if they had stayed, but that's water under the bridge (over the dam?), whatever. I think Verdi has four recruits coming in next year. That will improve the numbers situation, but it will be a young team. We will see if Verdi can coach them up. Hope so. We need at least one team to get us excited during the winter months.
