I wonder where this might lead:

Davidson is an A-10 member. Both of our teams played there last year, so there is no immediate UMass problem, but I wonder if there will be any league disruption.

The Albany men's team did the same for a previously scheduled game against Duke this season.

Those were out-of-conference games though, which are, for lack of a better word, voluntary. They can be replaced with other games. Conference games would be "involuntary," and I don't know how schools might approach that. In a hypothetical situation where UMass were supposed to travel to Davidson this season and they refused, that would likely be a forfeit.

I can't imagine any school who would forfeit a game to protest that law, as that would have far-reaching consequences. I imagine that at least one of UMass' Olympic sports will have to travel to Davidson at some point this season, as will several other schools' teams. We'll see how they end up approaching it.

If any team were to do it, UMass would be near the top of the list.

Before they forfeit a game, how about they show their sincerity by boycotting petroleum based products that are derived from oil produced in countries that punish gays with death? Moreover, how will the UVM administration treat their female athletes if men, who aren't good enough to play on men's team, but good enough to be scholarship athletes on women's teams, start demanding roster spots and scholarships to play women sports by simply saying they are transgendered?

So I was on campus this spring while the students were occupying Whitmore to urge the administration to divest in fossil fuels, and saw they had pizza delivered to them. I wonder what powered the car that brought them the pizza? Or what generated the electricity that powered the ovens that made the pizza?

Yay hypocrisy!

That's a horrible argument. It's similar to the one that right-wingers use when activists use kayaks to block oil drilling rigs. Their argument is: "They use kayaks which are made out of plastic which is made out of oil. Therefore, they are hypocrites." What are people supposed to do, not eat food because it was processed by machines that use oil?? Come on, get real. We shouldn't be criticizing those that are trying to help humanity.

Surprising at how little we've heard about the women's team so far this pre-season.

Their full schedule is now out:
http://umassathletics.com/schedule.aspx?path=wbball

Something has gotta give on Saturday, Feb. 18, when they're supposed to host La Salle. That day, there's already a men's hoop home game at noon against Davidson, and a hockey home game at 7 p.m. against UMass-Lowell. The Mullins bull gang is good, but I think a home tripleheader is asking a little much.

I have a sick feeling that this year's team might not reach last year's win total. With the transfers out, the cupboard looks pretty bare. Need to give Coach Verdi a year or two to recruit.

Just remember the first couple years don't count against his record when evaluating his coaching ability

I stopped by the BB performance center on Sept 7th when I was up in MA and did meet the coach . We talked about the big job he has to get the program righted and only having 10 players on the roster. He is going to have open tryouts for walk ons and hopes to find a few players to have enough players for practices. He has busy talking to potential recruits and hopes to have a couple that will commit in the early signing period which is sometimes in the second week of November. I would think that he has had some potential recruits make campus visits.
