UMass sources confirm rising soph guard Bria Stallworth is transferring from the women's basketball program. Venti's rebuild gets tougher
Bria Stallworth Transfers
Bria Stallworth Transfers
Now that we have confirmation, this deserves its own thread. WBB is taking 2 giant steps backwards. Coach Verdi has a lot of work to do.

Crap.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

People might not want to admit it, but this could be a glimpse into the future on the men's side as well.

Re: Bria Stallworth Transfers
I think he's talking about what could potentially happen if there is a coaching change on the MBB side.

Coaching changes can lead to recruits/current players jumping ship. In the case here, it's absolutely worse case scenario.
Obviously no guarantees that it would happen, but had Bamford pulled the trigger on DK at the end of the season, we might have lost the class and maybe someone like Clark. Same could happen after next year. I'm not saying that it's not worth making the move if it's warranted, but often times the blind hate of a coach/situation can cause some to forget the fallout that typically comes along with it.
Verdi has his work cut out for him, and it's going to take some time. Hopefully people realize that.

^ Makes sense if DK is let go after this year, but I don't see that happening unless we go under .500 with this recruiting class and a cupcake schedule.
Re: Bria Stallworth Transfers
Sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward.
(Edited to add) Do we know why they transferred? It may because of the coaching change, it may be because they realized even if they brought in Geno Auriemma this team would be a dumpster fire for a while. Not changing a coach that is not up to snuff because players may transfer is not a reason not to make a coaching change.

I didn't say it was a reason to not make the move. I specifically stated that it shouldn't be a reason to hold off, actually. It just seems that some folks forget what the fallout can be across the board, is all. We're seeing that fallout first hand here.

Verdi has an even bigger rebuild with these two scorers gone. Hoping he is able to grab some quality transfers over the next two off-seasons to bring in a quick infusion of talent.

Maybe he'll bring in better players. Good coaches are also usually pretty good recruiters so he may bring in talent and develop it better. Guy has a pretty good resume

Re: Bria Stallworth Transfers
Sad to see her go and I wish her well, but WBB hasn't done very much for a mighty long time.
I'm sure Verdi didn't take the job because Bria was on the roster.
Verdi and the program have nowhere to go but up.

Oh well. Good luck to her. Big 10 will be a little more difficult.
Looking forward to the 2022 UMass Football Season (Oh boy, just jinxed that one)
