Re: Coach Tory Verdi
Good news... but until they actually name a new coach, and that coach signs the actual contract, it's never over.
Certainly interesting to see that money was one of the "issues"... wonder if Pitt lowballed Tory, or if his request was a bit out there....

I always wonder what the relationship is like after a coach looks to move on to another school and ends up returning.

Reach out to those at St. Bonaventure... they might have some insight for you!

Or Winthrop.
Everyone in the UMass athletic department should be thrilled if he comes back and hold no ill will toward him if he left for a higher profile job. Same for us fans/alums. Gotta be realistic about where we are at on the college sports food chain.

Re: Coach Tory Verdi
Great news if Verdi returns. I'm just worried that he's out there looking for a better gig. That doesn't help team morale.

Scroll through this thread for the details, Berky... he previously worked with the AD there.

This is bizarre, but a complete 180. Say goodbye to Tory.

Breaking: A source within the UMass women's basketball program tells the Post-Gazette that Tory Verdi met with his players this evening to inform them that he has accepted the women's head coaching job at Pitt.
Re: Coach Tory Verdi
On the same day the Collective rolls out their WBB NIL. What started out as a big day for the women’s program this news drops. It will be interesting to see how RB goes forward, in house or National search?69MG wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 8:57 pm This is bizarre, but a complete 180. Say goodbye to Tory.

Re: Coach Tory Verdi
On Twitter, there are a lot of calls for Lefler to get the job. It might work, but he has never been a head coach. A lot of DI experience as an assistant coach, but it's a big jump to the top job. He might be a fine choice, but I guess I would prefer a head coach with a track record.
They said the guy from FGCU (Karl Smesko) was in the running for the Pitt job. Anyone know anything about him? They were 33-4 last year and 17-1 in the ASUN Conference. The A10 would be a step up in conferences, but we might have a depleted roster.

Re: Coach Tory Verdi
Bamford should know Lefler well by now, and it he thinks he's good for the job I'd support that 100%. It wasn't just Verdi here who had this thing rolling, it was the whole staff, so try and keep it rolling.69MG wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 9:50 pm On Twitter, there are a lot of calls for Lefler to get the job. Re: Coach Tory Verdi
The possibly depleted roster is what concerns me the most. They have talent coming back and a strong recruiting class coming in, now it’s a question of who stays.
Bamford has had bad luck hiring head coaches with little and no head coaching experience, he may be gun shy from going that route again. I am not very familiar with the women’s game but I have been a big fan of Carla Berube now at Princeton. Played HS ball in Central Mass before UConn, played in Springfield/Hartford with the NE Blizzard (I was a season ticket holder) and coached at Tufts. My guess is she is out of our price range but doesn’t hurt to kick the tires.
