An optimistic scenario and a question
An optimistic scenario and a question
So it's the 2019/2020 season and the women's team is coming off it's visit to the round of 16 and superstar guard Debbie Dribbledrive is heading into her junior season and has helped in bringing a couple of nice players from her old AAU program to Amherst. Bamford has clearly made the superior choice in a coach (much like his men's hockey selection). Combined with the resurgence of men's hoops and the football team, our program is making noise heading into its third year in the BigTime Conference.
So my question is, how many people are showing up for the women's games?

Re: An optimistic scenario and a question
Syracuse women's team averaged 752 fans per game this year. So there is that.
Looking forward to the 2022 UMass Football Season (Oh boy, just jinxed that one)

That is sad. 750 in the dome must look silly.

Raise the bar, do the minimum.
Re: An optimistic scenario and a question
On average, definitely under 1,000. They may get a big game or two where there's 1,500-2,000.
Re: An optimistic scenario and a question
I had no idea the attendance figures overall were as poor as they are.

Their WBB section of their website says they average 1,018 at the Dome and 3,385 on the road.njumass08 wrote:Syracuse women's team averaged 752 fans per game this year. So there is that.
Re: An optimistic scenario and a question
I know women in Northampton who have UConn season tickets, but who are not alumnae. I know of other women who have tried to be supportive of the team, but finally gave up their season tickets. I think a good team could draw 2,000-2,500 per game. I used to take in a few women's games per year, but haven't gone since the Dacko era. If the games were competitive I'd go to a few now.

Re: An optimistic scenario and a question
As I have said in the past they should bring back doubleheaders with the men on Sat. or Sun. afternoons with the women playing first. Do that a couple of times a season. Then when/if the women become respectable people that come early for the men's game might become interested in the women and come to their games. I know a couple of people that used to drive over to the games from the Berkshires and a few even had season tickets.

Got the 752 number from this article. Yours sounds more accurate.TruBluMaroon wrote:Their WBB section of their website says they average 1,018 at the Dome and 3,385 on the road.njumass08 wrote:Syracuse women's team averaged 752 fans per game this year. So there is that.

I agree. The only women's game I ever went to was one that was before a men's game.Berkman wrote:As I have said in the past they should bring back doubleheaders with the men on Sat. or Sun. afternoons with the women playing first. .^ One of the problems with Doubleheaders is the lack of availability for pre-game shooting. With the Kennedy Center attached and with 2 courts, that should take care of that problem. Doubleheaders would probably cost less to staff that two individual games. Using A10 teams could give opponents a chance to possibly reduce their costs as well.
