Dawley out

Post by MikeUMA » Sun Mar 06, 2016 10:01 am

One year left on the contract didn't seem to matter. Dawley is out. Reported by Matty V and Malone this morning on Twitter.

A strong statement sent by Bamford - one I wholeheartedly approve of. Dawley & Micheleto out. 2 Coaches who had a combined 10 years of failure!

A lot of money to pay Dawley next year. Not so sure I completely agree with the decision but do understand why it happened.

Will be interesting to see who we get. I hope it's someone young that can kick butt in the recruiting game.
Looking forward to the 2022 UMass Football Season (Oh boy, just jinxed that one)

Love this. No screwing around and hanging on to coaches of flailing programs. Problem is there might be a lot more of these happening over the next few years. Get it done!

This hopefully will send a message to other coaches underperforming . . . (ie: DK)!

Dawley went 46-133 - she should have been terminated 2 yrs ago.

Her team finished the season on an up tick. Thought it might save her.

I totally understand, my only hesitation would be the money. I'm sure they took that into consideration though.

He had to buy her out. Couldn't afford not to. If sports is the front porch, this program is the old beat up couch on it. 400-500 people in the Bill paying $4 a pop, game after game just can't happen.
Raise the bar, do the minimum.

Okay. That wound't be a hesitation for me and nice to see it not be a hesitation for Bamford. He needs to clean house and get rid of the dead wood that he inherited asap.

I see NJ's point here. Ok, maybe she should've been gone two years ago, but since that wasn't the case and with one year left....It may be a "warning shot" to other underperforming coaches, but we just fired a warning shot with a $237,000 bullet.

That would be my choice. Plus she's already familiar with the roster, school etc. Her experience is invaluable I

^ Agree 100% and I also agree that Bamford is sending a message. Poor performance is not acceptable.

I am absolutely thrilled to make these moves. It tells me that there are expectations of success in these programs and Bamford is not afraid to drop the hammer. Derek is lucky he has 3 years left at 1,000,000 per year. But what this does tell me if Kellogg cannot make significant improvement in 2 years, the hammer will drop on him as well.
