Unfortunately, those attendance numbers weren't even that good. Straight average of all home games this year was on the low side of your range: 411. And if you exclude Field Trip Day, always our biggest draw, the average dipped to just 339.

I also thought Bamford might ride it out one more year, and avoid the buyout, but when you look at those gate numbers, that's a compelling reason to start trying again now.

What they really need to do once the new coach is hired is to schedule some doubleheader with the men and women on a Sat or Sun. for no increase in admission price. Have the women play the early game with the men about 45 min to 1 hour after. That way early arrivals for the men's game can see what the women are doing and when the program gets better just some men's fans will go to the women's games. I can remember them doing it say once a year years ago but I don't see why they don't do it 2 or 3 times a year. I would always be down for the games at least an hour before game time and certainly would come earlier to catch at least the second half of the women's game.

Good God. I fully realize that in most schools WBB was not a big draw, but eeesh.
Raise the bar, do the minimum.

I've lived in Connecticut for the past 30 years and have watched the tremendous success the UConn program has had under Auriemma. Two of his past players (and there may be more) are currently coaching. Jen Rizzotti has been the head coach at the University of Hartford for a number of years. Shea Ralph has been an assistant under Auriemma for the past seven years. Both women have a history of winning during their playing days, and are competitive as hell. Just a thought.

I think that we tried to get Jen Rizzoti before we hired Dawley but she would not take the job for one reason or another.

Fire DK from the men and hire him for the women. That way we solve three problems. Don't have to buy him out, women get new coach, and men get new coach.

What would the credentials be of expected candidates? Previous D-1 coaching experience and success?

Hope they were watching before. Katie Abrahamson-Henderson has guided Albany to 5 straight America East titles.

Across town, G.P. Gromacki has just led the Amherst College women to their sixth Division III Final Four in the last eight years, with a 30-2 record. He's now 262-24 (.916) in nine seasons at Amherst and 425-62 (.873) in 16 seasons as a Division III head coach, plus two seasons as an assistant at Temple. That resume should rate a phone call at the absolute minimum.

Pretty nice record. And the moving expenses would be minimal

One question tho, would recruiting need an adjustment period or would it be a non issue? Different level of player

^^ A phone call maybe, but I'd be very disappoint if that ended up being the hire. While he's done a great job at Amherst and has minimal D1 experience, you'd have to expect at least 2 years of him figuring out how to be a D1 coach, and that's 2 more years than they can afford to give him to settle in. There's much better candidates out there who should be interested and talked to. Jumping from D3 to D1 is two completely different worlds. Maybe if it were D2, at least you're recruiting at the scholarship level, and at least in the mens game there has been history of some guys having success making that jump.
Hire Matt McCall!
