2015-16
Re: 2015-16
League honor roll this week...
UMass’ Cierra Dillard led the Minutewomen to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Rhode Island and La Salle. She averaged 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals … Massachusetts freshman Bria Stallworth averaged 11.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds for the week and scored 12 points against Rhode Island and helped spark a rally from a 19-point deficit for the win

Ladies up 2 at the half. Not playing well at all, especially considering how badly they beat La Salle last timeout. Game is on the A10 network is anyone wants to tune in for the 2nd half.

Re: 2015-16
Dawley may have saved her job with the way the team finished. In the other thread Bamford was quoted as saying he wanted to see how the year played out before making any decisions. Has this been enough?
Re: 2015-16
It definitely is a nice little run they are on. I could see this saving her job.
Looking forward to the 2022 UMass Football Season (Oh boy, just jinxed that one)
Re: 2015-16
I think so. The finish saved it and she only has one senior with a solid young backcourt. Have to think you wouldn't want to squander any momentum the end to this season could have going into 2016-17.69MG wrote:Dawley may have saved her job with the way the team finished. Re: 2015-16
I imagine this has probably saved her job. WBB is not a frontline sport for UMass, and it would be easier for Bamford and the department on the whole to only have one buyout to make and one job to fill for next season than two.
I think had the team continued to play poorly and was eliminated from the A10 tourney yesterday on day 1 Dawley would have been gone. And frankly she still could be, because the team has been bad for her entire tenure; if Bamford has evaluated her and feels she isn't right she's out.
At this stage, depending on the kind of run the go on in the A10s, she's likely bought herself one more year (the final year of her deal) to see what happens. But it's no slam dunk (pun totally intended), I'd still only put her at maybe 75% at best to stay.

Re: 2015-16
From a financial standpoint, this makes sense. One buyout this year, don't renew Dawley next year unless the team makes remarkable progress and then Bamforth can deal with the DK situation in 2 years.
I don't follow the WBB team that closely (who does?) but we only lose 1 key player (Timballa, our best big) but we return 4 starters and perhaps have a very good incoming class. If Dawley survives this year, a lot will be expected of her next year.

Re: 2015-16
Didn't make much sense to me to replace Dawley with only 1 year left on her deal for a sport that really doesn't bring in any revenue. I'm glad the team has this run going at the end of the season to make it an easy decision. She's got the Champions Center as a recruiting tool now, let's see if she can get the program back on the right track.
