^ AMAZING was your word, not Coach Dawley's.
My interpretation of your view was much more than a "part" of the success. Interesting that most posters here don't believe that SD can coach, yet they have no problem using her evaluation of another coach without hesitation!

Unlike yourself I don't know enough about Sharon Dawley or the UMass women's team to argue but using her career record as a guide you can put me in the minority camp that believes she can coach.

I don't know enough about the program to figure out why good coaches can't win here. Barbara Stevens has a .818 winning percentage in her non-UM jobs. She has 34 winning seasons in her 37 year career. Her only three non-winning seasons were her three years as the HC of the UM WBB program, and her winning percent at UM was .410.
There is something else involved in winning here besides being a good coach, but no one has figured it out yet.......or aren't able to execute the whole package for whatever reason!

A hat trick for UMass sports this weekend, as the women lose their conference opener to the Bonnies, 65-53.

Congrats to the ladies, the biggest positive surprise this year. They are doing a lot of things much better. The only major flaw I see game to game is turnovers. They had 19 today and if they can clean that up they could easily get to double figures in wins.

Wow! Not only did they beat them, they spanked them.

I did a quick look at the stats from last year and this year to see where the big jump was and offensively, before today, they're exactly where they were last year at 62.3ppg. Defensively, however, they've gone down from 79.9 to 63.1. Teams were shooting 44.2% against them last year and now down to 38.4%.

They lost the turnover battle 21-5 and still won. That's remarkable. I said it before, if they can clean that one area up they will win a bunch of games.

Way to go ladies! Looking like an incredible turn around. Give Dawley and extension!

Next game is home on Sunday vs GW. 2PM start, on TV on CBS Sports Network. Football starts at 3, so at least watch the first half.

This is going to be tough. GW is 15-2 on the season. GW won their 13th straight at Rhody yesterday.

The women deserve some credit this year. Maybe I'll go back to taking in one or two of their games each season. I hope Dawley can translate this improvement into a decent recruiting class.
