Exactly.....I care as well.....I just don't get why we can't get better....we can't compare ourselves to the program down Interstate 91. I'm okay with that...but why can't we put a team together to compete in the A-10?bottom line wrote:There are some of us who do care! I manage to attend 3 or 4 home games a year. What we can't understand is why the program is so bad. It really hurts when one of the best teams in the country, year after year, is just a few miles down the road.
UMass...the best is yet to come
it all begins with the head coach...whether young and dynamic, or someone older, successful and dynamic, recruits have to want to play for him/her. after that, it comes down to facilities, fan support the educational opportunities afforded by the school, probably in that order.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Maybe Sharon will be like Joanie. Her last three years were not very good but she had a couple of NCAAs and her players were competitive in the A-10 pretty much every year.
After Big Bob Marcum hired Dacko she spent the next eight years trying to get over .500 and finally hit 17-13 (tied for 6ht in A-10) just in time for the new AD to extend her contract. Still can't believe that one. If Dawley turns out to be a winner then all is forgiven but, if not, then it will easily go down as the second worst hire (re-hire) of his tenure along with Morris. Unless of course the puck program continues to tank and then it won't matter how many shovels are in the ground.

Still a huge fan of the team but really just confused. I think Dawley over 3 years has won like 13 games to 60 some losses? I get that UMass had some work to do but I don't see how next year can get much better. They lost the top rebounder and points scorer and one of the top 3 point shooters in the A10 left (albeit to a lower division).
The only thing that gives me some hope is if Mital can shake the shooting woes that hampered her during the last part of the season and that Henry and Timbilla will be a year more mature. A large part of the team is returning so perhaps the team spirit will gel but that's about all we can hope for.
Last year, the team had more turnovers than field goals (since 3 pointers are counted separately). Let's hope that turns around.

Dawley added a lot of experience to her staff with one hire:

I have my season tickets. Have been a ticket holder for the wbb for a while but its so hard to get excited for this one. They were 3-26 last year (or 27?) and lost leading rebounder and scorer.
They have a team motto of "rebirth" this year according to the blog. I say if they can't make it past round 1 of the A10 tournament, its time to go looking for a new coaching staff.....or just accept that we will never get in the top half of the conference.
