Note that in the Colbert sketch UMASS is referred to as "UMASS" and "University of Massachusetts". None of this University of Massachusetts-Amherst" bullshit!

If you ever have or will listen to the Public Radio Station that was located at UMass, formally WFCR five college radio now NEPR located in Springfield, they always said that one of their associate colleges was UMass Amherst. That is probably where that reference came from.
Re: OFFICIAL UMass references in Television, Film, etc. thread
^^ The emphasis on "UMass Amherst" came from then chancellor John Lombardi in 2002 or so as an attempt to raise funds for our campus separately from the UMass system. Our funding from the State had been seriously cut.
"He also set out to reduce the school's reliance on state funding. He created the UMass Amherst Foundation, exclusively devoted to private fundraising. Since he arrived, the campus has raised about $144 million in cash and pledges."
It has been a long unsuccessful slog by our alums - especially several here
- to rid ourselves of that appellation.

"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

Scott Crowder runs this hockey tournament. It’s really a big deal up here in NH. It’s a shame it had to be canceled this year due to the lousy weather.

Must have been in the Spring semester of '71...I started at UMass that Fall and didn't hear about the bombing!![]()
