New Governor Coming - Charlie not running
New Governor Coming - Charlie not running
Since Polito is not seeking Governor either, looks to be wide open. Thoughts on the race?

Assuming she decides to run, it's Healey's to lose I'd think. I cannot off the top think of a moderate similar to Charlie that would throw their hat in the ring. Should be very interesting.

Agreed on Healey. If she runs she'll be the favorite, despite the state tending to favor Republican Governors more often than not. There's not yet a prominent Republican candidate in the ring though, and I'm not sure who would fit the bill on it.
If Healey doesn't run, wide open race and maybe someone like a JPKIII runs, once again relying on the name to get him out there.

Re: New Governor Coming - Charlie not running
The remaining Republican party has shifted so far right, it is a gift to any Democrat who wins the primary, IMO. Healey is the obvious front-runner and it would be about time to have a true female governor, not counting the rise of Jane Swift.
That said, Healey has been a complete coward in not addressing the range of issues in the State Police, relying on the FBI.
No Kennedys need to apply, please. What about Marty Meehan, although he would have to work, and stuff.

Marty Walsh wants to throw his hat into the ring. I wish Baker would stay another term- a moderate Republican is what Massachusetts needs.

No politician is perfect, but I do think Charlie was good for the state. It showed in his constantly high approval ratings, which were sometimes the highest in the nation. Hopefully there is a moderate like him that can step in, as there isn't one currently in the race.
Re: New Governor Coming - Charlie not running
I think Charlie has done a great job. I wonder what he is planning on doing next.
Re: New Governor Coming - Charlie not running
I am betting he takes a CEO position in a healthcare or biotech company. He ran Harvard Pilgrim for many years.

Re: New Governor Coming - Charlie not running
Charlie was basically a centrist and while I don’t agree with everything he did, I think he did a really good job overall having to govern in moonbatville. God help this state if Healy runs because she will win and it will be a disaster.

Re: New Governor Coming - Charlie not running
Healy seems like a Shannon O'Brien v2, a longtime political hack with no real world experience who'll lose to a Republican with a better managed and better run campaign. At least if Marty W. runs, he'll pick off some of the labor vote which could get him over the top.
The worst outcome would be if lightweight Geoff Diehl wins.

Diehl winning the primary is my worry too. Who do republicans have on the bench though? Shauna O'Connell? Patrick O'Connor? Andrew Lelling? Doesn't seem too promising at the moment.PintOGuinness wrote: ↑Fri Dec 03, 2021 5:30 am Healy seems like a Shannon O'Brien v2, a longtime political hack with no real world experience who'll lose to a Republican with a better managed and better run campaign. I like the combination of partial private sector experience and being a centrist, effective manager. Governors have shown how important their role is during COVID, and we need effective leadership. The less career politician, the better.

All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

How about someone that cares about public higher education in the state? Just a thought.
