NBCSN shutting down?

UMass has appeared several times on the network. NBC has been touting its Peacock venture for some time now and may be looking to add sports to its lineup.

This is a bummer. Pretty soon we will have to subscribe to several different choices in order to be able to watch our sports. Spectrum here in Mooresville has CBS sports on it highest tier. They offer a sport package for $ 5 a month but it does not include CBS sports or NESN.

For people in the local area, Peacock "Premium" is free for Comcast and Cox (Rhode Island) customers.

Some other information if you weren't aware:

-Verizon Wireless customers: Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ can be had for free if you are on an unlimited plan. You can also get Discovery+ for a year free, and there are deals on YouTubeTV and Apple Music.

-Comcast customers: Netflix is free on certain packages, in as well as the previously mentioned Peacock. I believe you can also link your Amazon Prime account, but I don't think there is any discount.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

TV is getting so complicated with all of the different streaming options. Definitely a bummer, production quality of NBC sports is great and we probably got some extra eyeballs on our games from people just flipping channels that would never watch us since it is one of the big sports networks.

We are in the era of niche viewing, to be continued. Too many cable viewers questioned being billed for 'basic channels' like ESPN which kept driving up their rates. They cut the cord.

Now we see so many packages of sports and other types of programming, it is both dizzying and unclear if there are any consumer savings as we accumulate so many streaming channels. Youtube has seen dramatic price increases, for example.

Supposedly USA network will cover English Premier League and some other sports, perhaps NHL. That said, my beloved Lacrosse/PLL may get squeezed out to yet another PPV or streaming service. About 2/3 of PLL games for last year were on 'NBC Gold', another streaming service.

FWIW - we are now seeing more and more sports announcers covering events from their dens, allegedly due to COVID. B.S.!!! This is an experiment as to how much they can cut broadcast expenses eliminating travel and utilizing local crews for all but the biggest Tier 1 type events.

Lots of change to follow into 2022.
