For the kiddies here that don't know much about my wife's classmate and a most distinguished alumnus:

UMass Amherst
Alumnus and legendary musician Taj Mahal may well be the only veteran blues great to earn a degree in agriculture and animal husbandry before launching his musical career. Collaborating with artists ranging from Miles Davis and Bonnie Raitt, to Ziggy Marley and the Stones, Taj has been a diverse musical force since the 1960s and he's not about to slow down.

I started in the Class of 62, same as Buffy Sainte-marie. I think Taj there my Freshman year, for sure my first Sophomore year. Always get some reaction from music fanatics when I mention "... yeah, I want to school with Buffy Sainte-marie and Taj Mahal." I'm pretty sure Buffy and Taj used to jam together now and then.
