This is the second time, and they are going to try to carry on. Isn't it time to punt?

When I was younger I used to love their Fribbles. I think they called them something else prior, but had to change it because the other name was copyrighted.
Re: Friendly's Files for Bankruptcy
It seems the plan is for the restaurants to remain open under the new ownership.

^ That was it!! What a horrible name for a ice cream shake, but it was delicious. Who else would have copyrighted that freakin' name?
Here's the answer:
Here's the answer:
The Awful Awful technically got its start in the 1940s at Bond's Ice Cream of New Jersey, where it was invented and first trademarked. Bond's licensed the beverage to Newport Creamery until the company went bankrupt, at which point Newport Creamery bought the name
Re: Friendly's Files for Bankruptcy
I worked my way through UMass by working at Friendly's in Brighton MA summers and winters, long since gone.
Pay was bad - $2.65/hour as a shift supervisor, but good tips. Paid UM room and board on a lot of quarter and dime tips - we pooled them.
Ice cream cones in 1972 were 20, 25, and 30 cents.
Also managed to get held up at gunpoint one Saturday night at 5 pm.

They have been in a tough spot for years now and just can't seem to get out of the hole. Hope they can pull through.

The Friendly's near me in Attleboro is now a liquor store - the cotton candy ice cream they sell in Stop n Shop is like crack.

I suspect if the restaurant side folds, they will continue with the food products. Brighams did that and, to me, that's still the best ice cream on the market.

Just read this and it brought back memories. The Awful Awful was sold at a place called Bond's in New Jersey. Just remember that I ate something, finished it and got a button that read "I Was A Pig At Bond's".
Re: Friendly's Files for Bankruptcy
I made a pilgrimage to the last remaining Brigham's years ago, which I think was in Arlington. Definitely prefer the small/individual stores for ice cream, versus mass-produced. So many special flavors.

My favorite flavor is mint chocolate chip. Hood makes a variety called "Green Monster" and it is so much better than any other I've had that I can't even quantify it. Big chunks of chocolate and smooth, minty ice cream.

Hersheys Midnight Caramel River currently my go to when I'm jonesin' ice cream. Don't often eat it except summertime, but its pretty damn smooth
