Fours Closing

Post by Quann » Tue Sep 01, 2020 8:13 am

Just horrible news. This was such a great place, we’ve all had so many great UMass meetups over the years there. I know it was a hub for UMass fandom during the 90s run. Time to open up everything again, I’m tired of seeing businessEs of 40-80 years going under this year:

So damn sad. It was the go to bar to watch UMass hoops during the Calipari years if you lived in Boston.

The owner, Peter Colton, is a UMass guy who was very supportive of our pre and post-game sessions, often designating the second floor as a UMass meeting area for hockey as well as hoops.

I was watching the Canadian broadcast of the last Bruins game, this news was big enough that it went international and they had a short mention of it and how they'd miss it when covering games in Boston.

Best news I've heard in awhile... here's hoping!!
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

That's awesome! Really happy to hear some of the locals in town stepping up to save the place.

Re: Fours Auction ends 12/3 - 600 items

The current Sports Illustrated (yes, it still exists - barely) has a lengthy and well written article by Steve Rushin (long a favorite) on the closing of leading sports bars around the country. The leadoff section features Peter and The Fours.

My top memory was "Breakfast with Bruiser," when we packed the second floor a couple of times with UMass guys who took an earlier train/subway to listen and laugh.

The bidding for the auction items ends 12/3. Have a look. bidspotter.com
