I think we pretty much all do, but at some point I think the University will have to pay quite a bit If he is to stay here for a significant amount of time. There must be a lot of higher paying positions out there which will open up in the near future.

Or, maybe not. '

Athletics is in retrenchment due to the virus. This will be a tough Fall for FB revenues, also impacting MBB. Social distancing will take many stadiums to 25% seating when even allowed. I wonder what the take will be from the Auburn FB game now, is there an escape or mitigation contract clause? '

I know that many in the athletic dept. would help him pack.

UMass has a lot of difficult decisions to make IF enrollments are lower than needed for supporting existing budgets, as the athletic budget is the most supported in the country by student fees, as a % of total resources.

This is a national problem, and AD's are going to be in the thick of it, especially if the revenue sports have limits on attendance, and TV revenues are very unevenly spread across colleges.

I doubt any AD is going to be more popular as the reality of enrollment shortfalls begin to hit colleges.

New article mentioning Bamford choice as UMASS a.d. in context of lack of black coaches and athletic administrators in New England colleges. Another Hohler expose.

God, give me a freaking break. Globe doing what they do best, injecting racism into everything they can for no apparent reason. John Henry’s fingerprints are all over everything that gets published in that rag lately. I am proud to have Bamford here as our AD. He could be brown, black, Asian, it doesn’t matter I think he’s done a good job with his hires and promotion of UMass during his tenure. Hope he stays for another 20 years.

I know he's not perfect Insider. If his job performance goes down over the next couple years then I may change my opinion on him. My bigger point was other than the Globe furthering its obvious political agenda, is there any other reason to inject race into this?

FWIW - I thought the macro points the article made were solid. Not against Bamford hire at all, he has done a good job.
