Let's Eat, Again

Post by SignMan » Thu Jan 07, 2016 1:13 pm

needing a diversion from our less than successful efforts in the Win column afield & acourt; I thought it a good idea to renew one of my favorite topics: Fine Dining, from simple to grandiose...

welcoming posts, especially from our grastronome posters re: your wonderful dining experiences and recommendations within these parts and along your further away paths of travel...

I will start with a Chronicle video from 2013, which includes a visit to Sonoma, in Princeton, MA.
http://www.wcvb.com/chronicle/escape-th ... 240#!CPGLP

We generally dine there a few times each year; birthday, anniversary, & in general with UM friends.

It never disappoints.

If I were ever on death row, my last meal would be either:

Wings (3.5 sauce) from Wendell's in Norton, MA

or

Mushroom Burger and Quebec Fries from Stanley's in Central Falls, RI

I think these fall under your simple category SM

^ under that category, the NEWBRIDGE CAFE in Chelsea is a MUST for those of you who appreciate great tips,
like this one, and on the plate...

Steak, turkey, pork, and lamb tips...
all: terrific...
we favor the turkey and pork

typical Mr. & Mrs. SM eats there...
one turkey and one pork dinner size, with plenty left over to bring home...
with salad, hold the onions...

The salad may sound bland...iceburg lettuce and tomatoes; but, the house dressing makes it so great with the tips.

note: the dressing they sell there is not the same as the one they serve there...good, but just not on the house...

located where Chelsea, Everett, and Revere converge; a few minutes off Rt. 16 and a great place to enjoy after your plane arrives @ BOS.

We ate there a couple of weeks ago and it is as good as ever, if not better.

I'm Hungry...
but...it is Monday and many restaurants are closed...
However, this thread is Open!

A Taste of Vietnam
N. Main Street (Rt. 12) Leominster...
a couple of miles north of Rt. 2 on the left...
enter through DDs drive through and there is a small strip mall immediately to your right...
between Laundromat and sporting goods store...

Been going here often for years...
Excellent Food
Consistent
Clean
Inexpensive
Attentive friendly service

Gets busy @ dinner time and even @ late lunch time; put turnover is quick, so the wait is never too long.

If you see an ingredient on the menu, or in general, ask them to leave it off yours...no problem...
same re: level of spices...although there are many non-spicy options here...
sauces are light/delightful...

lots of long-time regular diners here.

Closed Mondays

The Hangar...

University Drive... Amherst...

Good wings... Good beer... Good prices...

Nice waitstaff... Meet friends there often... Sometimes go alone...
Its about the name on the front of the $10.00 t-shirt, not the one ironed on the back.

You'll be hard pressed to find a better authentic Mexican meal in the region.
Try the Tinga ... (I prefer the chicken).

The tamales appetizer is a must...
one each fish, pork, beef, chicken, corn.

House sangria is available by the glass, half-carafe, carafe.

reasonably priced.

note that the menu displays the year many of the family recipes go back to.

Sunday Brunch delight...

I must recommend it @ http://www.foreignaffairswineandbistro.com/
Foreign Affairs is located on Rt. 127 in Manchester by the Sea, easily accessible of Rt. 128.

The Sunday Brunch is offered from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
The brunch offerings are many, for varying discerning tastes; and, every one we have tried, as well as our friends who have joined us there, has received rave reviews here. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity served.

We first went there to enjoy the jazz trio headed by Henri Smith, who we have now seen four times, there and elsewhere. The music is free (hat passed for the performers); and, you never know when someone from the audience may join in with Henri ...

Check the site for who is playing when.

Ed - I'm glad that you are enjoying the brunch.

As for dinner, the place is strange, and I had to go home and get a magnifying glass to identify what was on my plate. We are one and done. This picture sums it up nicely: http://www.foreignaffairswineandbistro.com/feel/

@ one of the brunches, two of us had Lobster Benedict. It was excellent.
The brunch menu changes, so it may be Lobster Benedict or Scallops Benedict, etc.; among the many choices...

No "shortage" of food @ brunches.

Of course, heading back after the brunch one time, turning the corner towards 128, looking to my left and seeing a couple who just happened to be Mr. & Mrs. Old Cage .. and stopping to chat ... was the icing on the brunch! :D

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to try there next time I'm in that area, especially since nearby Zocalo in Arlington closed last year.

My son was a part of this restaurant part of his Hotel, Restaurant , Travel major at UMass. What they would do when they did the meals part they would rotate duties every time or so so that they would learn what every job it takes to run a restaurant. If I can remember correctly you had to make reservations for the evening meals they were that popular and very reasonable in cost. Of course many of you know that he stuck with the hotel part.

He did work for a while at the Ground Round restaurant in the mall while in school. He did a semester internship at Disney in Florida. I have mentioned several times here that he works in VEGAS at the MGM Mansion as a guest relation specialist. The Mansion has 29 suites. A one BR suite goes for $ 5,000 a night, a two BR suite goes for $ 7,500 a night and the three BR suites go for $ 12,000 a night. Probably 90% are comps for high rollers. The other 10% go to celebrities, movie or TV stars. They are supposed to keep all of the guest names confidential for privacy reasons. One year when we were out there he arranged to give us a tour of the place, pretty fancy. He did start off working the front desk at Planet Hollywood casino hotel working there about 4 or 5 years and then moved over to MGM when he had a chance to do so. Been there for 5 years now.
