For some really good Italian style food, allow me to recommend Via in Worcester.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

^

Via's sister restaurants, One Eleven Chop House and Sole Proprietor are both worth going to as well, especially the Sole.

^ Been there , done those in Worcester. All excellent.

Thanks for the two in Acton. They are new to me. On occasion, we make a stop for dinner in that area after an afternoon hoops or an early football. We've been to Chang An in Concord a few times, but that seems to be getting stale.

been to the Woostah ones...

Do try Filho's (pronounced Fill e Oh's)
Then post ur thank you's for the recommendation...

We have taken several people there and all have raved about it...

Mrs SM says co-workers who ate there yesterday for the first time were very impressed, per morning chat today...

They serve with consistency, top quality, creativity, and very $reasonable...

We typically eat there weekly and when I am not cooking at home, it is one of my top take-out places...

You can purchase to-go their outstanding marinara sauce, with/without their divine meatballs (distinguished from the meatballs on this forum), and their equally outstanding chicken minestrone soup...

If you are heading West into the Concord Rotary, exit the Rotary @ @A...It's about a mile or so on the right...
Call-ahead 1/2 hr accepted...

tell mgr, Rick, Ed sent you there.

While in the area, (check hours) there is a funky 5&10 in W Acton...one of just a few left in the gen area Boston/and surrounds...
Owner is a 4 yr Stockbridge UMie, Class of '59
His step-son, Hans, is a cool waitstaffer @ Filho's...

Following on the heels of them opening one in Westborough, Red Heat Tavern opened up in Milford 2 weeks ago. If you're in the area, check it out. Pretty good stuff.

It's been my experience that stadium food generally sucks and is overpriced...waaaay overpriced.

^ I reluctantly paid $15 for a beer at the Army-Navy game last weekend. At least it was a 24oz Blue Moon.

Hey, Sign Man - We went to Fihlo's on 2A in Acton today on our way home from UMASS. Mid-afternoon dinner so we would get home in time to complete our hockey watching UMass/Northeastern doubleheader. Two excellent meals and plenty of leftovers. I had not been on 2A in that area in many years. Thanks.

^Excellent!!!

I was just a couple of miles from there about then and thought about getting take-out there but could not reach Mrs. SM.
Ended up getting pizza to go @ another Rt 2A fave of ours, the Bull Run Restaurant, in Shirley.

We ate there Friday night, in the Taproom, splitting a maple glazed chicken dinner and Caesar salad.
The food there just keeps getting better all the time...

Owners George and Alison have done a fantastic job there since acquiring it from Alison's family about 10 yrs ago.
George does the gigs there and Alison pretty much turned the once average food into a great place to eat.

We met the chef's wife Friday nice. She was in the Taproom with the owners. Said her husband first chef'd @ the Concord Inn.

First time you go, if you go just for the food (vs. a live music gig with dinner), I recommend you reserve a table in the Taproom or sit @ the bar in that room, the original part of the building.

I'm sure you appreciated Filho's excellent service, as well as the great food, @ Filho's. Do you know who waited on you?
Did you meet the manager, Rick?

Next time there, bring home...($9.95 ea)
a quart of marinara sauce
a quart of meatballs in marinara sauce
a quart of chicken marinara soup
a quart of whatever other homemade soup they have that day (usually two or three soups including the chicken marinara, which is fab).

Rick often takes home a quart of it a few times/week.
You can make a meal of the soup with bread.

For first-timers @ Filho's, this is Filho's Great Road, Rt. 2A, Acton, near Concord.
Filho's Cucina, Ozzie Filho's original location, is in Groton. It is a different style restaurant, with partial waitstaff service and BYOB, with a nice wine and beer store, owned by others, attached.

Also, re: eating out, SM "picked" well this weekend, coming up with what appears to be an original wood sign, with a metal Americana eagle across the top, from a Pewter Pot. With a partial menu on it, It must have hung either outside, at the entrance to one of them, or inside as you entered one.
I remember going to the one on Squire Rd., Revere, going back to around 1960, with older friends who drove before I did.

We were back in Antigua the first half of this month...15th trip there.

If anyone is going there for a regular vacay or cruise stop (we do not cruise), feel free to get in touch re: places to eat.
I am your best resource, whether it be fine dining or great local food places.

We know the owners everywhere we eat out.
can also advise re: best currency to pay with... US, EC, or credit cards, based on each restaurant's policies.

Back to Filho's (Phil-E-OZ's)...

We have been back there several times since last posts about it...

Last night was a special event night there...
Their first wine and cheese tasting.
Mr. & Mrs. SM were in attendance, along with nine others.

Seven cheeses and wines, carefully purchased and presented, cheeses by restaurant manager, Rick the cheeses...
a wine rep from Martignetti's (wine distributor/no longer retail stores, although they continue to retain those licenses) presented the paired wines.

They carefully presented explanation of what, why, origins, aging (cheese and wine) was outstanding.

Cheese was all purchased locally, available at Wegman's in Burlington, Idylwilde Farm in Acton, and Spring Brook Farm in Littleton.
(SM does some of our food shopping at the latter two).

The cost was $30 pp, including tax.
Dinner after was optional, but all of us were well sated after the wines and cheeses, enough to forego more food.

I continue to recommend Filho's Great Road, Acton...
near the Concord line, Rt. 2A, not far off Rt. 2, via the Concord Rotary...
or ... exit Rt. 2 @ Rt. 27, head N about a mile and bear right at the memorial obelisk, drive about a mile to the end, turn right on 2A, and it will be on your left, a little past Colonial Liquors on your left.

We also recently indulged in Italian fine dining in the N. End. Daughter and boyfriend were in for the Marathon, his first time running Boston... we took them to Bricco's on Hanover Street. Excellent meal, albeit much pricier than Filho's Great Road. They also went back to Hanover Street for a meal at Nico's, which they described as delish...though...even more $$$.
