Back to dining out...
The Fireplace Room
@ The International in Bolton MA
The golf club is Private, but the Fireplace Room is open to the public.
We highly recommend it.
Valentine's Dinner there for us last night. The V Day menu continues tonight and tomorrow night, and there likely are limited tables available both nights (tonight just early and later seatings).
The special menu for Valentine's Day is a fixed price four course @ $55 pp. IOurHO, not only worth it, but a bargain.
http://theinternational.com/
click on Valentine's Week Dinner (through tomorrow) to access the menu...
The Costini Trio was excellent. We both had the seared scallops for Starters, also excellent.
Our Entrees, the Halibut and the Steak, were superb...large portions, cooked to perfection...
The halibut was one of the best fish dinners I have ever had. The steak was expensive steak house-like, quality and the portion (we brought home half of it and could easily have shared it as a meal for two).
The chocolate sampling for dessert, dessert a course we seldom order, was amazing, with several different tastes, all generous, served on a slate "dish."
Wait-service is equally superb.
It was Friday night, so free live music accompanied the dinner; a local singer/songwriter/guitar player, who was very good.
The Fireplace Room is quite large and comfy, with tables not tightly packed, so a dinner conversation can be both heard and relatively private.
Our previous visit there was for a New Years Day brunch, which was amazing...all you can eat, lots of choices, all high quality and delightfully prepared and presented in a buffet...and better...it was $20 pp...
Bon Appetite!

Re: Let's Eat, Again
Phew, it's been two weeks!
a long time to fast...
Dinner last night was @ TEN, Asian/sushi place, Trumbull, CT @ Westfield Mall...
on way to gig @ The Warehouse in Fairfield...
First time there with decent reviews...
It is in a big mall, and we were quite satisfied with our reduced intake dinner...
Split a very nice veggie gyoza and a triple tuna sushi roll...
No problem stopping there again, a tad off the Merritt, when in the area again...
Food above & drinks came to $30.85 incl tx, pre-tip...

Re: Let's Eat, Again
We had dinner this past Friday night, early, @ Turners in Salem MA; before the Janis Joplin musical @ the Lynn Auditorium, which was a fabulous show.
First time @ Turners and it was one of the better fish dinners we have had in the US.
we split a cup of clam chowder and it was one of the best; creamy, but not too creamy, with a little peppery flavor...perfect...
Entrees...an evening special...sole...
It was really good and the portion was enough for the two of us...
other...peppered tuna sashimi...was perfect, and a very decent portion...
much more food than we usually eat, and we finished it all...
unusual for us...two desserts...one chocolate; other apple crisp with ice cream...both delish; one on the house for wife's birthday...
service was excellent...waiter & owner Joe Turner was there and came to bring the entrees, then to chat about the food...
will definitely go back there...
very busy, even as early as our 5:30 time...
reservations a must...

Re: Let's Eat, Again
I've got a new discovery for you Ed, The Jenkins Inn over in Barre. It's a B&B but they're open to the public for dinner. Only seats 14 and reservations are required. We were told during the warmer weather you better do that 2 weeks out.
We also discovered the Eagle Hill School's Cultural Center over in Hardwick the same night. They occasionally bring in great music into their 400 seat Abbey Theater and last weekend it was one of the hottest Irish Bands on the Planet, Lunasa, with special guest, mandolin legend Tim O'Brien. The season is winding down so stay tuned in late summer for what next year holds. Looking at maps, it seemed it wasn't that bad a ride from Belchertown and Amherst either.

Re: Let's Eat, Again
^ thanks...
will check both out online...
We used to go to the Hotel Barre before it burned down
for dinner and the dinner/stay-over pkg.
was a lot of fun doing that...
I remember doing it one March...roads through Hardwick had winter frost heaves and I was driving my old Vette very slowly to avoid hitting bottom.
always looking for music venues...
we go to a lot of live music...
Bull Run, Tupelo, TCAN, Regatta Bar, Blue Ocean, The Warehouse, Bridge Street Live, The Flying Monkey, Chans, and more.

Re: Let's Eat, Again
more re: music...
Jefferson Airplane/Starship fans...
founder Paul Kantner recently passed away @ 74...
J Starship is continuing to perform the music.
Cathy Richardson, who has done Grace's F vocals so amazingly well the past 8 years, had decided to stop touring with JS in November...and told me, before Paul passed away, that she would not be with them touring this month around here.
However, needing a F lead, they are now touring with three F vocalists, and Cathy is again doing some of them, including their upcoming Northeast tour stops...
They will be performing March 17 @ Blue Ocean in Salisbury Beach and the following night @ Infinity in Norfolk CT...
Jefferson Airplane will be receiving a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in L.A. next month.
Grace Slick asked Cathy to do her songs at it...quite an honor for Cathy.

Filho's
Main Street/Rt. 119
Groton MA
http://www.filhoscucina.com/home.asp
Local Italian gem of a restaurant.
The North End in the north central burbs sans the Boston prices...
We have been there numerous times; eat-in and take-out.
They do a significant take-out business, and generally are quite busy for dinner, especially weekends.
This is not a full table service place. If dining in, first give your name to the name-taker (if necessary/busy).
Order your food at the register. You will be assigned a table when available, after which your food will be prepared and brought to the table.
Silverware and napkins are conveniently located for your needs, as well as water, coffee and tea on the house.
This is a BYOB establishment, with a nice wine/beer store attached. Glasses and openers are provided.
Everything on the menu is delicious and relatively inexpensive.
Saturday evening, we ordered two entrees; a linguini and their Gamberi Carcioffi, a must try for shrimp gourmands. The bill came to $26 and change. We brought a couple of bottles of craft beers, and with a small table tip had an outstanding meal for $30 (+ pkg store cost of the drinks)... and had enough leftovers for dinner tonight @ home.
Enjoy!

Re: Let's Eat, Again
Here's one I just discovered out in Montague:
https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-alvah-stone-montague
The smart -ass making cracks about cockroach-infested apartments in Sunderland (Northwood) would be yours truly.

If your in Montague / Turners Falls
Check out this locally owned restaurant. They try to serve locally sourced meats , cheeses , produce and have local micros on tap.

Filho's opened a second location a couple of years ago, in Acton, on Great Road, Rt. 2A, near the Concord line.
Unlike the Groton location, Filho's Great Road is a true full service sit-down restaurant, with bar.
http://filhosgreatroad.com/
Mr & Mrs SM are regulars here, as are many other patrons we repeatedly see there.
Ozzie Filho has done a marvelous job with his second place. The food is consistently superb and very reasonably priced...
absolutely no need to traipse to the N End with this gem here.
Staff is excellent, Manager Rick is on top of everything...
Ozzie, himself an accomplished chef, has hired an outstanding exec chef.
In season, he grows herbs outside to snip per order.
Daily special entrees, usually two, have been delishimo...
Ozzie occasionally makes available wines from his private cellar.
They have a private dining room available at no xtra $, which I think can handle up to about 16.
Mrs. SM has a two-day business gathering yesterday and today. Tech mgt in from major co for meetings and I suggested they do the first day dinner @ Filho's...which she arranged; which went very well...

Re: Let's Eat, Again
For good casual eats in that area, try the True West Brewery in Acton. Good beer and even better food. Best tater tots I've ever had.
