More on Reynard from Matty V:
FUTURE GOALIE HONORED — Nic Renyard, the incoming goalie UMass is hoping can help stabilize the position, picked up an impressive award. Reynard was named RBC Canadian Junior Hockey Player of the Year. Any player in Tier II of Canadian junior hockey is eligible to win. Tier II players are eligible for college, while Tier I (often referred to as Major Junior Hockey) players forfeit their college eligibility because they’re compensated for playing.

Playing for the Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, the 20-year-old Victoria, British Columbia, native was 30-8-3 with a 2.19 GAA and a 92.4 save percentage.

Something else to consider:

Leonard is relatively young for his class ... he doesn't turn 17 until Aug. 7. I'm not a big fan of the trend in college hockey (UMass is a big offender) of waiting to bring kids to campus until they're 20 or 21 years old. But Leonard could play two years in the USHL and only be 19 when he arrives on campus.
I wrote this ... it's gotta be true.

Another recruit commits to UMass.
@OTBPuckWatch: 96 D Callum Fryer (OJHL - Aurora) commits to UMass. Big, defensive RD, All-Star at WJAC. Another nice piece to rapidly revamp UMass defense.

Massie is going to UVM. It seems like he had a tough year, so maybe not a major loss.

97 D Jake Massie (USHL Omaha) commits to Vermont. Cats get an athletic, tough-to-play against LD, 6th rd NHL pick in '15. Was UMass recruit.

We just secured two new commitments today, as reported by Rocks on FTT. Jack Suter (C) and Jake McLaughlin (D) are the two new commits. Both play in the USHL (Top junior league in the USA). Both are on the older end in terms of age. Suter turned 21 about a month ago and McLaughlin turned 20 about two months ago. Both guys seems like good pickups for Carvel and staff. Obviously, UMass isn't going to be able to recruit blue chip prospects right now, but I like that they are getting guys who are not only solid players, but are also older. As we've seen recently with college hockey teams (most notably Quinnipiac), having solid, older guys is sometimes better than having young talented guys (since they often bolt early). Obviously, you want the best talent you can get, so I'm not saying that UMass (or any other team) shouldn't try to recruit elite talent. Either way, I'm looking forward to hockey season starting up again. Things are looking up! GET EXCITED :D

According to US Hockey Wire, umass has landed a yet to be announced recruit who will be eligible for the second half of this upcoming season. I am not a big hockey guy so I have no idea what that means for the program

^ Here's the tweet. We don't have him yet, but it sounds promising whoever he might be

MORE TO COME: Look for UMass Amherst to land big fish. Player has D1 experience, and will make an impact at the halfway point when eligible.

As we hinted earlier, UMass Amherst lands '95 F Brett Boeing from Dubuque. Former Mich Tech forward will be eligible halfway through year.

My guess is that he didn't feel comfortable with the new coaching staff as this video hints he really liked the previous staff (that recruited him).
