Carvel is tied for 3rd in this list of odds:

I see this list and immediately think of Calipari in '96, tempted with a big bag of pro league money. He was also given a good amount of control, as he was also VP of Basketball Ops. Ultimately, it proved out that his style was better suited for the college game.

Carvy has seen both sides, as he had 12 years in the NHL ranks. College money to NHL money is apples and oranges, but does he prefer college?

Someone remind me: how old are his kids now? One is still kind of young, right?

Many people have a line at which the money is no longer worth the demands tied to it. I wonder where his head is at on this. Even being named highly on a list like that, he's gotta be thinking about the possibilities.

I'd personally like to see Savard get the shot.

As for Carvy...I hope he's happy where he is He's got essentially a lifetime contract with guaranteed raises, and is held in very high esteem. That's a hard thing to go away from. Coaching the Bruins might be too big a draw though. That's about as big time as you can get in hockey.

Of course, if you aren't successful with the Bruins, you can be guaranteed it will never be Neely or Sweeney's fault.

How could you be successful with the Bruins being run by Dumber and Dumber

I saw Carvel with a boy about 9 years old at an afternoon Bruins game.

One thing about the NHL - you know you'll get fired eventually. BTW the game I saw him at was the Avalanche game, not a coincidence methinks with Makar playing.

The same could have been said about our basketball coach in May 1996.
