From Kyle:
Providence senior forward Matt Koopman is using his fifth year of eligibility and will spend it with the UMass hockey team, he announced Tuesday on Twitter.
The Marblehead native accumulated 12 points with five goals for the Friars last season. All were career highs or tied them. Koopman finished with 32 points (15 goals) in 113 games at Providence.
“Extremely grateful for my time as a Friar. The memories and relationships built will last a lifetime. I’m excited to say I’ll be transferring to UMass Amherst for my 5th year,” he tweeted.
Koopman previously played for Waterloo in the USHL with former UMass captain Bobby Trivigno and spent time at the Berkshire School and Marblehead High School.

There are a lot of seriously talented seniors available in the portal. Hoping Carvel can get some talent there.
Still think we need another goalie option.

^We got Brady from Arizona State and have Luke and Graham as well I believe.
Re: 2022-23 Season: Regain the Trophy
I know. They have big shoes to fill, compared to the past couple years.
I need to read up on the guys we have coming in. We've lost a ton of talent and heart. Glad we retained Wait.

Re: 2022-23 Season: Regain the Trophy
There was a Zoom session with Carvel tonight. I tuned in for part of it. He talked about the 11 new players coming in for next year.
4 transfers, none of whom are grad transfers. They all have 2 years or more:
Goalie from Arizona State
2 Dmen - 1 from Colgate and 1 from Providence
Center from Michigan State
7 freshmen:
3 forwards/centers
4 Dmen
For those that know Carvy, he is as transparent as they come. Someone asked him about Brown and Miller. His response was something like, "Ryan finally came to his senses and hired a couple of old farts". That's not verbatim, but that was the tone.

Re: 2022-23 Season: Regain the Trophy
^ 7 freshman incoming/ but none are goalies, what happened to the 6-7 goalie that was expected? Is Noah Ellis on the list of 7?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: 2022-23 Season: Regain the Trophy
^ The 6'7 goalie had a number of medical issues and his career may be over. That's why they got the transfer from Arizona State. He happens to be 6'6.
That give us 3 goalies and that's the number we always carry. The issue, obviously, is how good are they? We've been spoiled for the last few years.

^^ The freshmen are:
Defensemen
Ellis
Murray
Adamson
O'Connor
Forwards/Centers
Connors
O'Hara
Cameron
Sorry, I should have put the names in the original post. If Carvy can give them out I guess it's OK to do it here. Hockey is so different than BB or FB as far as releasing names.

^ Thanks - same thoughts on hockey being so different from the rest of the department as far as the public knowing names goes. Now we wait to September, to see who is actually in the class of ‘ 26….I know that Ellis was picked in the 2020 NHL Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights on the 6th round…any word if any of the incoming freshman are likely NHL picks? Two (2) of the tranfers; Nodler (Calgary) and Brady (Jersey) have already been selected.

It isn't any different as long as the recruit as signed their NLI. Schools can talk about kids who have signed their NLI or grant-in-aid agreements, they can't talk about kids who haven't. That's it

Re: 2022-23 Season: Regain the Trophy
The kid from PC is a forward and should only have one season left, unless of course we are talking about a different kid (but that seems unlikely)69MG wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 10:02 pm There was a Zoom session with Carvel tonight. ^ Tough break for Garrett; even tougher for UM, who have now lost their entire 1st line top scorers 1, 4 & 5

No idea when this guy will show up. He played on a U17 squad this summer.
