Weekend Series vs. UCONN Feb 18-19
UMass takes a hard-fought 2-1 game over Huskies. All of the scoring came in the third period. Nice win, onto Amherst tomorrow.

It is worth noting that Lowell and UM are tied for HE first place, and we hold 2 games in hand.

We have 5 games left. 1 with UConn, 2 with VT and 2 with BC.
If my calculations are correct we win Hockey East if we get 10 points in the 5 remaining games as long as we get 1 or more of those points tomorrow or if UConn doesn't get every point available (15). Where's Stats McKinney when we need him?

In other words, if we win all 5 remaining games, correct?
"as long as we get 1 or more of those points tomorrow"
if we get just 1 point tomorrow, we don't win the game; we can only get get 9 points in 5 games.
very confusing.
5x2=9?
Is there a three point shot in puck?

Ed, the rules changed a couple of years ago.
You get 3 points for a regulation win, 2 points for an OT win and 1 point for an OT loss.
I'll be at BB and hockey today. Hope we get good crowds for both.

For NCAA's, we are number 7 in the pairwise rankings, tops in HE. Lowell is next at 14.

I guess I am more into math like the Snow Leopard Permutations our daughter discovered in college and presented before the AMS.
(as if I could even understand her 1st sentence).
Planning to go to puck.
Just can't do a 13 hr game day.
Will need caffeine for tonight's drive home.

Down 1-0 ( power play - 5 on 3) after 1period, despite outshooting UC 9-3

Bobby ties it 12 seconds into period #2!
And Lopina makes it 2-1!!! Whatever Carvy's message was in the locker room, the team got it loud and clear.

All UConn after that, 4-2 loss. At least Lowell lost too.

A really disappointing end to that game. Plenty of chances, had the advantage with SOG's but just couldn't get the shots in and took WAY to many penalties. Need to win Vermont series up next...

A very disappointing end to a long day. We dominated most of the first period but just couldn't put one in. After scoring 2 goals in about a minute at the start of the second period we reverted back to getting shots on goals, but not real good ones. As others have mentioned, the telling factor was our special teams. Our power play didn't produce anything and we had a couple of blown assignments on the penalty kill that gave them 2 goals.
I don't think Murray had a prayer on 2 of the goals and the other 2 weren't soft goals but he stops them on a good night.

Dominated he first period only to have UCONN come out with a 1 - 0 lead on 3 shots on goal. 2nd period was about even. We got 2 goals early, but UCONN tied at 2 - 2. 3rd period UCONN had the better play and won the game. Penalties! UCONN's power play won the game for them. Our power play produced nothing, and we had trouble killing penalties. Their keeper played very well. To say the least, it was a disappointing night! Though, I came away impressed with UCONN.

Splitting here isn't end of the world stuff, but it stings a bit more coming off the split with Maine. They've got some things to work on, that's for sure.
