Health and safety protocols within both programs postponing this weekend’s series.
Union Hockey
@Unionmhockey
Due to health and safety protocols, this weekend’s men's ice hockey series between Union College and the University of Massachusetts set for December 31 and January 1 has been postponed
She's Sports Director for WTEN. I questioned her on the "both" and she responded that her information came from the Athletic Dept. at Union. Let's hope she's wrong and/or we hear something from UMass.

^ eh, other than fewer games played not really. It's not like either team will get a bump or take a hit for a game not played.

The only potential impact is if teams start using covid/health reasons to dodge potential tough games they could lose.

^^^ Back to clear: Gazette headline: " COVID-19 protocols at Union postpone UMass hockey's return to the ice"

"UMass will have to wait another week to return to the ice.The Minutemen's hockey series against Union scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Schenectady, N.Y., has been postponed due to COVID-19 protocols within Union's program. A makeup date hasn't been set yet."

Hockey East teams need as many non conference wins as they can get to help their pairwise rankings. HE has underperformed this year.

Just look at how messed up the NHL schedule became, or the now canceled World Junior hockey tourney. January may well be a washout across sports, not to mention several bowl games. And more colleges are going online for the first few weeks of Spring classes.

The only good news is that Omicron seems less deadly.

Hockey East has a clue, something that is lacking in the A10.

Merrimack and UMass will play on Monday night at 6pm at the Mullins Center. Non-conference game. Both teams lost games this weekend due to cancelations. Just like Army/Penn State yesterday, props to both teams for finding ways to get games on the schedule.

Cage, it turns out that someone at Union was fabricating info fed to her TV Station. Here is her response. I'm glad all is well with our guys.

You want to know the truth, and you deserve to. So I reached out to the UMass ice hockey director of comm, who confirmed your suspicions. The team was prepared to play this weekend until Union canceled.

Michigan games next weekend. So far, Michigan is open and holding classes and activities in person.

"Starting Jan. 1, 2022, everyone attending ticketed events, including on-campus performances and athletic events, must show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours. More details will be shared soon."

I wonder if fans can attend the game on Monday. I have seen nothing about this on UMass Athletics site

^ If you plan on going, be sure to read the new Covid policy (tent, hand stamp, etc.)
