Game 8 - UMass at UNH Sunday 1 pm

Post by econalum » Thu Nov 07, 2019 12:19 pm

UNH is off to a decent start at 4-2-1, 2-1 in HEA, and coming off a 5-4 win at Dartmouth and a shutout of B.C. 1-0 last weekend.

Game is available on NESN.

Can’t wait until the third period to start playing. Got what they deserved today unfortunately.

UNH has also improved its D, they had almost 4x blocked shots of UM.

I thought our offense overpassed and did not pull the trigger soon enough, esp. on pp. :?

Too bad... likely would have moved up to #1 in the rankings.

I don't think there was any chance of moving to #1, Denver's loss was to UMD, a VERY strong team. Hockey polls are not a volatile as other polls. UMass likely would have moved to 2, Denver at 1. As is, I expect Umass 4 or 5. I see:
1.Denver
2. Notre Dame
3. Cornell (I don't like this still)
4. Minn St.
5 UMass
6. UMD
7. Penn St.
8. Clarkson

Again, polls are irrelevant at this point, the more interesting question to me, is will the UMass pollster still give UMass a #1 vote as they did all last year.

UMass was already #2, soooooo they likely would have taken #1. I based that on having watched the fluctuations last year. Splitting a weekend series almost always bumped the #1 team down.

And the polls are not irrelevant at this point, or any point. Being #1 is a huge marketing boon for the department to push and get people to the games.

Good call on #5, Bubba. New Hampshire should be in the top 20. I'd take the Wildcats over Northeastern. We are still getting a first place vote, and honestly, that voter is a joke. 5 HEA teams in top 20, 2 in the top 10.

Frustrating for many reasons. Not the least of which (to me anyways) is it knocks UMass out of the top 16 of the pairwise. With the exception of right after they lost to NU the first time, this is basically the first time UMass isn’t in the top 16 since the 17-18 season.

I hope like hell we don’t look back at this game as the reason the team isn’t in the tournament come March. Oh well. Sweep BU and it probably won’t matter.
UMass Football: 22-3 at home when I was a student.

Leave the A-10!

Really early to worry about Pairwise. There’s like 25 games left in regular season.
